Problem with Running the Game

So I started playing Dreamkiller earlier this evening and am enjoying it so far. However, I have a weird problem: Every time I clear a stage, the game gets stuck on the "Please wait" screen and never progresses to the next stage. It doesn't matter how long I wait. I can kill the game in Task Manager and restart it, and it does retain my progress, so it's basically just an inconvenience, but it is annoying. Anyone else had this problem and/or know how to fix it? Thanks.

Have you verified your game cache? Could be some messed up or missing files. R-click on the game in your library. Choose Properties/Local Files/Verify Integrity of Game Cache.

Yep, that was the first thing I thought of. It verified successfully. Also tried disabling the Steam overlay since I know it causes problems in a few games. Still have the same problem.

At that screen the game uploads results to the Steam leaderboards so maybe there is some problem with that.

Well, I was kind of wondering if there was some kind of conflict between Steam and this game. Maybe I should try it in Offline mode and see if the problem goes away. I'll post back when I have a chance to do that. In the meantime, please keep the suggestions coming. I really did enjoy this game for the most part except for that irritating bug.

Okay, so disabling Steam cloud synchronization does resolve the problem. Which sort of stinks because I just beat the first Dreamkiller without taking a hit and couldn't get the achievement for it. :-/ Oh, well.
