How do you enable player2? / MKTril is WAY better.

Simple question: How do you enable player2?
The game says player2 can start at any time, but that is not possible when it configures my keyboard and controller to both be player1. Does anyone know if there is some way to fix this? Config file?
Also, is there any way to edit in the missing characters? Can't use the normal method without a player2.

MKTrilogy is vastly superior to UMK3. CD music, bug fixes, full character list, more moves, more stages. Get it instead.
UMK3 also has really fuzzy sound. Very low quality and muffled.

Best keyboard config is HP:r LP:f BL:e RN:c HK:w LK:s

To play versus localy you need two xbox 360 controlers or emulate two x360 controlers with 3-rd party software. There is no way to play on keyboard sadly.

Gey. That makes this game completely worthless. Better off using MAME. MAME gives you better controls, better sound, and even better visuals.

Also, the UI and navigation sucks. backspace? What is the escape key, chopped liver? Why isn't the mouse supported?

MK Trilogy is the most broken version of the all the 2D MKs, but it does have some nice extras. I would personally pick UMK3 over Trilogy any day, but only because I like to fight competitively and fairly.

Specifically how? I didn't see any reasons listed, just a sweeping generalization with nothing backing it up. If you mean bugs, then yes. MKTril is virtually unplayable out of the box because it won't run on XP+. However, there is an unofficial patch that completely fixes it. Patch the game and everything works.

-Just watched a MKTril history video, and it talked about some of the issues, but I still find it a fun game.

http://home.comcast.net/~heavyweight.../mkt/index.htm
I've seen it reported on many sites that the bug has something to do with the video but it seems the sound is the real problem. When the game tries to play certain sounds or stop certain sounds it crashes. I removed well over 200 of the instructions that cause this error. After the patch is applied sound will work on Windows 2000 and XP and there will be no more crashes,

*Fixes sound for Windows 2000 and XP
*Fixes round announcements
*Fixes USB joypad support
*Fixes bugs in Joystick dialog box
*Removes popup saying your graphics hardware should be set lower
*Removes files for DOS and Windows 9X play
*Removes old compatibility fix
*Updates miscellaneous text in the game
*Updates uninstall program
*Cleans up application directory
*Misc changes to a few of the windows

Well, maybe because in Trilogy balance went straight to hell with being able to play as bosses? Or even a freaking Noob Saibot whose combo is "LK-LK-LK-LK" and his special moves makes his opponent BOTH vulnerable and unable to hit Noob Saibot himself? Or even Rain, who can just lightning spam you until the end of universe, or even better, roundhouse spam? Or because it's the version in which Shang Tsung either can't morph, or you have to wait like three hours for him to do so?

Count_D is correct. Of course all the mks from my understanding have some broken elements, but Trilogy had the most and the easiest to perform. There are infinites and high percentage combos in umk3, but most are hard to do and they don't really affect competitive play, usually. I won't tell you which ones because I would prefer not to go online next time and find people trying them. You can practice reptiles great juggle or kung laos infinite, but unless you are a great player anyway, you will get beaten regardless.

MK Trilogy was fun, but it was the cheapest most broken MKs of them all and forced them to introduce the combo limitations of MK4. There were way to many spam moves (like the classic sweep in the corner) or to easy to pull of 100% combos to the point the match lasted until the first player could get the first hit in. Every MK until 4 had at least one character that could do a 100% combo, I remember it was Johnny Cage in the first, don't remember who it was in 2 and Kabala in one of the versions of 3 (got fixed in a later version).

EDIT: Who here never beat MK1 with the jump low kick trick?

Try playing through the game, the original Mortal Kombat, with only jumping towards your opponent with Low Kick and see how far you get.

tried it just now, got me nowhere. the AI may not block many of the jump kicks, but it moves all the time and you miss ending up getting an uppercut

I played MK Trilogy back then

But I've lost the disc.

I wish they revitalize the pc version or something, convert the CD music, upgrade the executables to run on modern hardwares and supporting matchmaking or some sort.
