6970 Crossfire Poor Performance in EE

core i5 2500k 4.0 GHz
8GB RAM DDR3

2x 6970 in Crossfire (LATEST DRIVER AND CAP INSTALLED)

in MAX SETTINGS (with UBER-SAMPLING OFF)

I get poor frame rates and poor GPU USAGE

60% of the time i get smooth 60 fps but the other 40% the frame rate dips into the low 30's-40's and GPU usage dips to low 40% on both cards.

For a high end system like mine I expected solid 60 fps 95% of the time

anyone else with crossfire experience poor performance?

Be happy with what you have and wait for a patch!

Did you get 12.3 Catalyst and latest CAP?

I have same setup and get 15fps in the opening battle. Game is just a beast. I'm gonna try dropping my resolution.

Fix your drivers and update your caps.

I have a single 6970 and a 3 year old Phenom II 940 CPU and I get 40-75 FPS at 1920 x 1080 with max settings (Ubersampling off). No reason why you should have to lower your resolution.

I have basically the same rig as you (except my i5 is at 3.3 Ghz) and have the same problem.

It seems like whenever I'm looking at a bunch of NPCs framerate goes way down. And the GPU usage is at like 30%. But if I turn around the framerate and GPU usage goes back to normal. It's like the game suddenly stops using the CPU when there's to many NPCs around or something

I dont remember having this issue on my old rig which had a Q9400 and a single 6970

I'm starting to think it's not a coincidence that we have the same problem with the same hardware, as if TW2 doesn't like having an i5 paired with 2 6970's...

Yeah thats strange... I have a 5000 series.. 5830 and I get way better FPS than that. I run on medium settings however... game still looks great... with your setup you should be running max settings no problem.

i have an i7 920 @3,6 ghz with an hd5850 @1920x1200....

40 fps average details all @ max ubersampling OFF...

with 2 6970 you should put bersampling ON and have 60 FPS...can you try with a single 6970? probally is only a driver/crossfire configuration problem

Even with crossfire off and on the very lowest settings I have the same problem. Framerate is fine one moment, but if I look in a certain direction with many NPCS the framrate just plunges down to 30-40

I agree, think this might be a problem with the HD 6970. I have had nothing but problems with this game and i have only got the one. I had HD5770 1GB in crossfire before i got my HD6970 and had to turn crossfire off to play this game but it worked fine.

I have been a loyal ATI/AMD customer since the HD2900 days but i think the next graphic card i get will be NVIDIA
