Can anything be done about this?

I've noticed over the last few years, the major groups (by major I mean the most populated like 2K Official Game Group, Ubisoft Official Group, etc.) are only trafficked by scammers and spambots. Take the 2K group for instance and look at the last 100 posts. More than 90% of the posts are scamming links which try to steal your account information and the last activity by the admin of the group was over a year ago.

These groups are only doing more harm than good to the unknowing and unsuspecting, or to the occasional misclick. I know Steam gives you a warning about opening links, but does this mean just because there is a disclaimer that they should allow scammers to post whatever they want?

All it would take is for the admins of these groups to delete the group and remake them to get rid of most of the scammers and spambots and return the groups to the actual fans/supporters of the group.

Also, I know the easiest answer would be to just leave the group, but that is just removing myself from any possibility of accidentally clicking one of those links. What I would rather see happen is have those links removed completely and the accounts associated with those links banned. It's a lot to ask, but in all actuality, it wouldn't take that long to have someone go through and start banning users who are spamming those links.

Yep. Perhaps if you write to the group owners, they'll take action.

It would help if group owners were able to prevent users from posting links in comments.

Assuming kicking members from the group ALSO stops them from posting on the comments wall then it's fine.

If they can still do (seeing as it's a public group) then it doesn't solve anything.

I've tried to contact them but I have yet to receive any replies. Guess I just have to wait.

Lets say for instance, a user with only free games linked to their account would like to post a valid comment, then what happens? I still believe comments need to be moderated before going live and viewable by group members irrespective of whether the group is public or private.

This would be a good solution, but it would require that the group moderator/owner be more active in the group than the members. When you get a group with over 100,000 members, it would be a full-time job just to approve messages.

This is true, but do you honestly think 2K, Ubisoft, Bethesda, or any other game company with a major group on Steam is going to pay someone to moderate their Steam group?

wouldn't be so bad if 2kgames could have a area of customer service just for this sort of thing. Then we can work our way up to quality assurance in the near future?

After contacting several group creators/admins to the major groups, I have yet to receive any replies.

I guess they don't give a ♥♥♥♥ if their groups are breeding grounds for scammers. Well done major game companies.

Steam has a good thing going on in my opinion. Although I don't agree with some of their policies I can see what the OP is trying to say.
