Allow the Ability to Remove Gifted Text from Gifted Items.

As the title sais, we should be able to remove the gifted text from items, this could be for reasons ranging from price of items being lower becuase the item is gifted to wanting to not have to see some vulgar, racist, or otherwise unwanted name on items gifted, to just wanting to get rid of gifted text just for whatever reason (like having an item gifted from a person you now hate but now have to see there name everytime you arrange your backpack).

The trading community as a whole would love to see this implemented, being a trader i know the frustration of having an item being gifted and end up having to sell the item for a lower price then what it should be.

As it is, we can remove paints, name and desc tags, strange parts, and craft names from items, why not gifted? why do we not have a choice in the matter?

TL;DR theres no good reason to not be able to clear gifted text from gifted items, we should be able to clear that text the way we can clear paints, tags, strange parts and craft names, in doing so many traders and people with unwanted and inapropriate names on there gifted item names would be very happy.

You do know that some items can only be traded by using a Gift Wrap, right?

In the OP, he specifically complains about being a gifted item that is subsequently "lowered in price". If gifting were the only way to trade that item, then why would a tag effect its price if it has to have that tag?

And to reply to the thread: You can have your name removal tool. My suggestion for a craft recipe is: two gift wraps, two keys, and... let's say... an equalizer.
Now, since I believe these can't be used in crafting, the only way to do it would be to purchase each item in the store at the same time. Upon receipt of the items, you are prompted if you want to combine the items in to a "Gift name removal tool" (if you accidentally click "No", you will need to buy the items again).
Once used on a gifted item, it has a 50% chance of returning the gift in a "clean" format. If it fails, the system will award you a lump of coal which cannot be crafted, traded, gift wrapped, or deleted.
Sounds fair to me. I'll email the TF2 team right now!

Because traders are stupid.

I'm buying a HOUWAR soon. I can only get it if he gifts it to me. I don't want it to say his name forever.

I want it to stay.

Trade something big and then change my name so the tag says "SUCKING BOUGHT THIS HAT".

But then people can't know that you didn't acquire it on your own.

I agree with this.

Its your item, you should be able to do what you want with it.

That's just ridiculous. Technically speaking none of your TF2 items are actually yours if you read into valve's terms on this stuff. And even then, "it's my apartment building - I should be able to print out a massive banner depicting cuatrochan's latest gore thread out of its window."

At any rate, let's be realistic. The vast majority of the people actually asking for this are traders looking to increase the value of their item, and while the reason "other trader decided to be a dingus and change his name to something nasty after gifting an item to me just to spite me" is cited, the reason "I wish to make the fact this item was formerly in the hands of a duper or scammer untraceable to the common trader" is probably the one the most who would gain from this have.

Look, if you really want that name off it, you can just trade the item to a trusted friend/alt account and have them gift it back to you. If the item in question's untradeable and had to be gifted in the first place then it'll require another gift wrap, which is a walloping extra $2.30 if you use a key from the Market to trade for it, $1.30 if you wade the murky waters of sourceOP. Free if you're such a deft trader that you've got one of em octopus hats, and can trade up to a measly key.

Not bad considering the people here proposing $10+ gifter's name removal tools.

The whole point behind the gift wrap was for people to give a gift, that people actually use and keep, and the name thing just being a gimmick.

Certain items that are untradable save for gift wrap suffer from this. I don't want some random person's name on my item, they might have or change it to something stupid or vulgar, and that's stuck on my hat for the rest of eternity.

Gifting a hat shouldn't "ruin" the value, that's why if we had the ability to remove people's names/gift text, people could still give gifts without condemning the hat for the person.

And we can avoid this.

"Thanks , you could have just traded it to me you know!"
-A player upon receiving a once-valuable hat, now gifted.

Uh huh. Mhm. Ah yeah....you didn't read anything beyond me quoting you and saying "that's ridiculous" before opening up the reply box for a good ol' NO U did you? Well, you just spouted recycled points, so allow me to recycle my own.

Exactly, the hat was once valuable. Until it passed through the hands of a scammer or duper, and thus ended up in yours at a lower price. If this WERE enacted, a simple button press would delete all evidence of such an occurrence, except to a valve employee. (remember, gifting removes trade history, as it's considered a new item). People say to do your research about high tier items such as unusuals before buying them, well this just removes one significant ability to do so.

And again, the other main motive for this to be implemented is to remove an offensive name, or the memories of someone who decided to be a big meanie and not be your friend anymore. Unless you're, again, doing something trading related, it really shouldn't be that much of a bother. And if it really is, the name can be removed with a trustworthy friend/alt account 1 or 2 gift wraps, whose price would come out to anywhere from $1.30 to $5, depending on where and how you acquire the gift wrap, and if the item in question's tradeable or not.
