Why am I suddenly getting 30+ fps?

For some reason now wheneve I play MW3 I get an average of 30-40fps which is really frustrating. I usually get 91 fps (locked on this game) but now I get less then half of that.

The only thing I changed in the config is to see more feeds on the killfeed thing and the time it stays there. Is there something wrong?

There are some things I downloaded and installed and then this happened.

* Moved my Steam folder from the OS to the D Drive so I would have more room open for more game downloads
* Installed Batman Arkham Asylum
* Installed Tune Up Utilities from Speedtest.net
* Installed Batman Arkham City
* Made sure the Resource Monitor in Task Manager had all the cores not 'parked' (it was running at half for some reason before I changed it)
* Reupdated my GPU Driver

After all this it is still happening.
I have played Batman AA and it's working at 60 with most things turned off/low. But for MW3 almost everything on this game is extra with bullet impacts and spec map on is only putting me at 30-ish. What's going on?

Here are my specs
Quote:
CPU: i7 2670 @ 2.2-3.1Ghz
Ram: 6 GB
GPU: nVidia GT 540m
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
Thanks

*Edit*
Also, I should say that MW3 randomly crashes on the loading screen sometimes. (I use Windowless so I can do other stuff but even that doesn't elp)

with the 540M in your specs, I assume this is a laptop?

If so, try disabling "soften smoke edges" and "shadows" in the in-game video options. Having these on seems to really drag FPS down on laptops.

Also, set the bottom 2 video options to "native" and "auto", native looks better and auto will give you a good balance between pretties and performance.

Yeah, it's a laptop. But I do have Shadows and Soften Smoke Edges disabled almost all the time. (Sorry, I meant I only use Specular map and Bullet Impacts) I had it on Native for a very long time, I just recently changed to Extra. I will try to put it on Auto but I doubt that is the problem.

delete config and verify files

im serious, i know my way around the settings and so on, and i couldnt find why a simple patch made my fps drop like 20%

just doing this it got smooth again, try it even if you are a config nerd

Several latest builds of Nvidia drivers greatly decrease MW3 performance. Try rolling back to older builds.
