Closes on start

Hey guys I just got this game sense it wa son sale and whenever I start it it loads to a black screen then closes?

^^ that site tells me that I can run it (the bar goes all the way to the end meaning I can deffinetley run it on max settings) but it closes.
Please help!

Need some more information.

Please post your System Specs. Are you getting any error messages? Where does it crash, after the Splash Screen (the window that pops up after you click Play in Steam) or is it loading the game up to a black screen and then closing?

Here's a few things you can try:

1.) Re-start Steam. Sometimes this works :P

2.) Right-click Dead Island in Steam, click Properties. Click on Local Files and Verify Integrity of Game Cache.

3.) Fix for Splash Screen crash re-post: (thanks to "goofkop")

• Go to your steam directory: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dead island\DI\Data"

• Open the game.ini file

• Change the line that says:
  Locale("En")
  to
  Locale("en")

• Save changes

4.) Post your System Specs and give more info if that doesn't work

I might've found the problem, it didnt create a folder in my documents like it should've. I've tried reinstalling, verifiying files, restarting steam and PC, but nothing works.

This is happening to me, too. No error message or anything.

I tried changing the "E" to "e", launched it again and my computer blue-screened.

These are known issues.

Are either of you using multiple monitors?

If so...Redhwk I'm assuming you cannot find this file location - C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\Documents\DeadIsland ???


If that's the case, here's an alternative fix to the black screen issue

• Go into "steam\steamapps\common\dead island"

• Right Click on "DeadIslandGame.exe" and click "Properties"

• On the "Compatibility" tab, check "Disable desktop composition"

Bizzaro I suggest you change the "en" back to "En" as Blue Screen isn't something you want to have happen.

Here's a fix you can try (assuming you are using multiple monitors and also receiving the black screen crash).

• Open "My Computer" and navigate to C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\Documents\DeadIsland\out\settings

• You should see Audio.scr and Video.scr, Right Click "Video.scr" and open Properties

• Navigate to "Previous Versions" which will list all previous versions of the file

• Locate the original/first version of this file and click Restore - Ignore the warning about unable to undo action and click OK

Both fixes are assuming you have multiple monitors and are receiving the black screen crash.

If that's not the case try checking your Firewall and Anti-Virus to make sure it's not blocking anything game related and I'll continue searching for fixes.
