[THE FEEDBACK LOOP] - Do you want feedback on YOUR map?

[ THE FEEDBACK LOOP ]
================================================== ======================
================================================== ================

As many of you have no doubt realised by now, it is very difficult to get good feedback on your map. There's simply too many maps on the workshop! If nobody plays your map, and so you get no feedback, how can you improve your mapmaking in the future?

This thread is intended to be the solution. The rules are simple:

  1. Download and play the latest map in the thread
  2. Write a review of the map in your forum post...
  3. ...then provide a link to -YOUR- map!
- You MUST review someone else's map before giving a link to yours -

Easy! If you want feedback on your map, you must first review someone else's. This way EVERYONE will get feedback on their map! Do you want more feedback on your map? Then just keep reviewing new maps as they appear!

Here's a suggested framework for feedback:
Quote:
  • - Overall Score (1-5): 5! I enjoyed it very much
  • - I liked: How red and glowy the lasers were
  • - I disliked: The fact that I couldn't see how to turn the death lasers off
  • - Difficulty (1-5): 5, it was hard!
  • - Logic part: There wasn't much logic that I could see; mainly just death
  • - Action part: Lots of action, primarily involving dramatic death. Via lasers
  • - Other: My skin hurts.
- Overall Score (1-5):
- I liked:
- I disliked:
- Difficulty (1-5):
- Logic part:
- Action part:
- Other:

Please vote this thread 5* if you like this idea to give it more visibility!
p.s. I swap +rep for cookies. Tasty tasty cookies.

- Overall Score (1-5): I was torn between a 4 and a 4.5 (I gave it a 4.5 in the end!)
- I liked:
Spoiler:
The cube fling and the oops fling

- I disliked: The very first puzzle seemed too simplistic compared to the end puzzles.
- Difficulty (1-5):3 (End was tricky but not overly difficult.)
- Logic part:
Spoiler:
The cube fling

- Action part:
Spoiler:
The oops fling

- Other:To add more "bling" to the end puzzle, you could truncate the begining part. I know people are all about lights. I don't like dark puzzles, but I don't care for bright either. Maybe shave off some lights and add red laser at the end or ... the lights you took off at the start. You could even add a portable panel that would in no one add the player. Just a red herring portable panel.

I'm not going to leave my link just yet. I'm new to the forum here, so wanted to play some others before I do. Earn my wings so to speak. Hopefully you guys are still active on here.

The pros:
I liked the puzzle you have to get the cube. When you think you got the solution, there is something still missing, then you finally get what you have to do.

I liked some of the level design (the tunnel with grating and hazard lasers below, created a good look, has no purpose, but has great visual.

The cons:
There is a lot a unnecessary walking (for example in the beginning of the level). There is a lot of puzzles that have no challenge (they are just fillers).

The main problem is confusion. There is no clear goal. Almost everything you don't know what it does, you have to try first to find out. Best levels design comes from making it clear what everything does, letting the challenge be the puzzle.

Try out my map:

Right! I'll download Trajectory right now. Here is my map! I'll leave feedback here and on the workshop post.

Cool

I see that you have indeed left feedback on my map on the workshop itself, TY! But you should write comments here so that people can see that you've reviewed the map! If you don't write a review (or just quietly put it on workshop), and post your map, people may think you are a jerk :P

Spoiler:
The angled plate that activates along with cube dropper has no use?? I just putted a portal under cube dropper and then a portal at the SECOND line of white panels at the wall to the left, so the cube dropped down in the black faith plate hole in the ground. Then jumped down there and got the cube, up to the excursion tunnel and back so I could put the cube on the button.

Also I don't understand what the turret has for use, if you are quick with the lightbridge on the bottom row of panels at the exit, you will reach exit quickly.

See these pictures how I did it:

Thanks for the review! The way you completed the map was unintentional I will need to fix that! It's amazing how others look at a challenge/puzzle in a completely different way.

EDIT: I gently tweaked my map to prevent the exploit discovered by sebastiannielse.

I am gonna play both Trajectory and Safecracker. Will leave feedback here and on the workshop for both maps.

This is mine Its is very easy but i was testing an idea more than thinking about the puzzle elements.
I think you will enjoy what i was trying to achieve.

Edit: (Trajectory) Good map. I had a giggle at the trap door and the tripple portal fling. Had to scratch my head for abit in the last room but over all i enjoyed it

- Score (1-5): 4 (The fact that the tripple portal fling thing works so well bumped it from a 3.5)
- I liked: X
- Difficulty (1-5): 2.5 (scratch my head for a couple seconds in the last room)
- Logic part: 3
- Action part: 3

Still my solution works:
1: cube is coming: http://i.imgur.com/BaW8S.jpg
2: cube touches edge of hole: http://i.imgur.com/hEDRH.jpg
3: and lays down beutifully: http://i.imgur.com/m9NNx.jpg
(and of course, you dont take the cube with you down, instead you take the cube on your way up)

Would suggest that you simply make the whole walls unportable if thats not part of the solution.

Also about the thing with 4 platforms and faith plate, between 2 laser walls, is this the correct solution?

Flinging to get to the turrents then using them to take the lasers out. The second turrent in top conner was my favorite to get. I also liked that right off the bat I knew where the exit was.I also liked the light at the end of that one tunnel.

- I disliked:I didn't find any cake. =(
- Difficulty (1-5):2.5 (Low score isn't bad. Easy puzzles that make you think = FUN!

Spoiler:
Getting that first triger using the replusion gel.

- Action part:
Spoiler:
the turrent laser room

- Other:I really liked this as I'm not a very logical person, I like beign able to see what I need to do, but have to figure out how to do it. If something is doing something around the corner.. I can hear, but not see. That can frustrate me.

Okay that is two so far, I will do my best to do the rest.. if I can figure them out.

For now I think I can post mine now.

"Tower Heist"
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...s/?id=74399748

I know I have a lighting issue. I wanted to add more, but like the TheHolyChicken, I reached max items in my chamber. I had to delete lights to get the feel I wanted. This is my first and so far only chamber. I worked on this for almost 4 weeks. I playtested a lot.

Thank you for your time. /bow
