Widescreen (or custom) resolution fix!
Had to do some digging as everything on widescreen gamer forums either did not exist (the file) or did not tell me where exactly to put the files, but here is what i've come to do
first, download this file: http://www.mediafire.com/?noudtydiqmy 2nd, place files within the zip here: 32Bit: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\evil genius\ReleaseExe 64bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\evil genius\ReleaseExe 3rd, open up the resolution.ini and change resolution to your desire, such as this (i use 1680x1050) Quote:

Ah, spank you very much. I'll try this out when I get home.
![]() EDIT: Works wonderfully! I'll go play some more... EDIT2: Don't work anymore. Only worked the first time, then it failed every time I tried launching it. when it got to the main menu, I got the: "Evil Genius has had an error and has been closed" -error Last edited by Farlong: 06-25-2009 at 09:38 AM. |

haha, no problem, i hate it when games don't support my native resolution so i try any way to make it, but this one took some work, only because, basically, only half of the information was out there, kinda odd

It looks like this may cause a problem, not sure if it's only me, but after the first time you fire the game up and then close it, it crashes, and then trying to go into the game again, it crashes when it gets to the menu
the only fix i've found for this is to remove the files that the custom resolution hack put in, run the game once, get out of the game, and then replace the files again, then run the game the problem with this, is you'll probably have to do this every time you go to play the game again after leaving the game |

I've had no problems as yet. Have closed and launched several times. My resolution is set to 1024 x 600 x 32.

I know how to make it work
It is important to start your game from the exe in the game folder
(C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\evil genius\ReleaseExe for vista 64 bit and C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\evil genius\ReleaseExe for 32 bit I believe). This allows you to start it over and over without crashing. THE GAME WILL CRASH WHEN LAUNCHED THROUGH THE STEAM CLIENT OR A SHORTCUT CREATED BY THE STEAMCLIENT WHEN YOU HAVE INSTALLED THIS RESOLUTION FIX! EDIT: The game will crash if you minimize (Alt + Tab), though you will be able to start it again without crashing through the abovementioned method. Last edited by Trikstain: 07-02-2009 at 06:40 AM. Bleh, we haven't found a way to launch it through steam still? The only way to launch is through the Games folder in Win7 for me.
