"Failed creating 3d device"

Does the game not support 16:9, cuz that's the only thing I can figure out. It was running fine, but I switched to a monitor and am running at 1920x1080 - now the game refuses to run.

Any ideas?

I've been getting this same error on this game for a long time. My graphics driver has been updated several times and I am still getting this error.
Like you, my game ran for a short period of time and then stopped.
I did have a 1920x1080 screen hooked up before but can't remember if it ever ran on it or not. Either way, it's not running on my 1440x900 now. I've just tested your aspect ratio theory by changing to a lower setting and it did not have any effect on the game.

Thumbs up "Failed creating the Direct3D device" possible fix

The game was working great for some time and then one day after not having played for a while it just stopped with the "Failed creating the Direct3D device" error message. The problem appears to be that my new monitor can't support the same resolutions as my old monitor.

I corrected the problem by manually editing the settings to bring the game into a resolution my monitor can support.

C:\Documents and Setting\[username]\Application Data\SaintXi\LightOfAltair\settings.ini

WINDOWED 0
WIDTH 1024
HEIGHT 768

If you flip the WINDOWED mode to true (changing it to a one(1) instead of a zero(0)) you have to delete the WIDTH and HEIGHT lines out of the file or you will still get the same error.

I found it easier to just make the WIDTH and HEIGHT numbers that will work and then go into the options ingame to reset to the desired settings.

Also remember that [username] is your windows user name under the "Documents and Settings" folder

Hope this helps other out
