Red face Chalk another player up as 'jarateed'.

Look at my post count. That's right, I made an account just to complain. I know. I know it's been said a thousand times, but the more people expressing frustration, the more chance it'll get fixed. Squeaky wheel, you know. And yes, fixed is the right word, because it's broken. Guns kill people, drugs are bad, ice gives you frostbite, and brotha', this unlock system is broken. I also know I'm going to get plenty of replies from trolls (morons?) claiming the unlock system is perfection incarnate unto videogames. Save your time typing, as I won't bother to reply to you. You know who you are. In fact, the mods can lock this thread after I post it for all I care, as I won't be opening the forums again, let alone reading this post to catch up with what you think. I didn't care to look at them up til this BS, and I won't care to look more until after it's fixed and there's some other nonsense system change.

This unlock system is literally the equivalent of saying "don't look for the unlocks, they'll look for you". I've heard plenty of people say "they made this change to stop achievement servers". But it'd take a blind fool with no common sense to not realize beforehand that the result of this system would be ten times as many servers as there were achievement servers. Only now they're for letting people sit idle for unlocks. Even worse, people aren't just sitting in "idle" servers, they're sitting in public servers moving their mouse around while watching episodes of House and randomly getting the new unlocks while others play for hours and receive nothing. Or worse yet, they play normally and receive items they already worked to unlock at an earlier date. Not only do we have BS servers now, we're ruining legitimate play servers.

The result? More BS servers than before, less people playing than before(uninterested due to waiting for their unlocks), personal devaluation of unlocks we already had (boy, that force-a-nature sure seems like street trash now that I have 4), devaluation of the new unlocks (I got the thing and it took me sitting in a server for a week while everybody around me got one on their free weekend only to never play again) and people (probably the same people praising the unlock system) who run around in servers gloating about their receipt of a soughtafter random unlock "HA! That's my third Ambassador today! Delicious irony!". And man, let me tell you something. Once I have everything unlocked, it'll be great. Because then I get to see the unlock screen 500 more times for Sandvich over the coming months, before deleting it. Fantastic. A daily reminder of this failure of an update. That sounds just great.

While I was greatly looking forward to unlocking everything, I currently have very little interest in the unlocks due to the new system. And as a result of that, I have very little interest in playing because I look around and 1/4 of the people in the server have been randomly awarded stuff I want yet have no ability to receive.

True story, I got a friend to buy the game on the half off sale this weekend. I'm sitting there playing and hoping to blindly unlock a huntsman. Literally the moment he logs on, he got a huntsman. He messages me (via AIM. Didnt know how to use steam for IM) and asks "Hey, what does this mean?". He has zero appreciation for what he has because he doesn't even know why he has it. Are you going to make the unlock system handle that too? Maybe it should dress him and walk his dog, as well.

The truth of the matter is this update was made to appease feeble-minded twerps who can't figure out how to get achievements without breaking a nail. All you morons who say "cry some more" to the loyal players who are dissatisfied with the unlock system? How about saying "cry some more" to the smacktard mouthbreathing slackjaw newcomers that can't figure out how to unlock stuff. Better yet, let's make it slightly easier for them. Give them some guidance in a menu to the fact that unlocking achievements gives them weapons, then point them to the achievements screen so they can unlock them. When I first bought this game I had no idea how to unlock weapons, but I used the Googles and the Yahoos and all the tubes of the internet to gain said knowledge.

Gaining items through "achievements" has been a videogame mainstay since 8-bit. Beat the game, unlock a harder difficulty. Damn near every game with any replay value has unlockables for skilled players. If a videogame gives you awards randomly, chances are it isn't a skillbased videogame. If I want to be rewarded for skill or effort, I'll play a video game. If I want to sit in front of a slot machine and pull a lever for gratification I'll go to a casino. In the future I'd appreciate you leaving that choice to me.

As an aside, in the blog post it says something about adding a trade system? Great, sounds like even more useless servers for garbage aside from playing the game.

Finally, the hats are nice. I want all of them. Make more, please.

Edit: The text replacement for slang/swearing is cute. Way to make dissatisfied players more dissatisfied. For those concerned, you can supplement "irritated" for "old fuddy duddyed" in the title. Amazing.

Edit 2: ACCEPTABLE. Also victory and win. Haters fail. Dupe items still fail. Thanks everyone for rep, views, comments and etc. Many rare hats to you all.

After reading that, I laughed, then felt sad as the same happened to me, but with two friends.
Playing dustbowl, had a friend join me, avid tf2-er, wanted the huntsman. I was playing for the whole day only unlocking a jarate (total new & old), but promised to give it to him as I never play sniper. I congratulated him, and wasnt very bothered, but envied nonetheless for a new unlock atall. Another friend joined, hardly plays tf2, simply joined because of the update, unlocks cloak and dagger before leaving the spawn. I have been trying to get any spy weap for 2 days now. He doesnt play spy. He tried it out, just to sit in the middle of the first point and peg me with the rev when I ran by for chuckles.
Complete garbage.

Agreed 100%.

Ok, long organized posts are what make good changes happen. Not a flood of poorly written, angry posts where people curse Valve.

If I was incabable of making up my own mind, I would look at the OP's post and compare his/her argument to yours and laugh.

So your argument is it's fine?

lmao

Above all else, I just don't want this game to turn into some MMO knockoff. Some folks argue that that's an unrealistic concern, but people aren't making WoW jokes about TF2 just because the idea randomly popped into their heads one day.

Seriously Valve, this is an FPS where the focus is on teamwork and tactics--I can't foresee a drop system that includes "gear" that modifies your stats doing anything but making gameplay as painstaking as PvP was/is in World of Warcraft.

An in game guide to achievements and unlockables for newbies would be a great idea.
