I meant that the "game not available" message does not appear anymore, but now when I launch the game (from steam and also from the direct icon), nothing happens. The process ZenoClash.exe appears active on the Windows Task Manager window for less than a second and then banishes with no errors and no minidumps created. So the game does not crash because it doesn't start at all!!

I have already installed the game from zero several times, validating again, updating drivers... But I'm out of ideas now, so if you could provide some they will be very apreciated. Otherwise I will try to reinstall the operative system next week, just in case.

PD thanks for the quick response
Hmmm... that is very strange. Do you have any other Source Engine based game and have you checked if it works well?

Is it always in the same moment / spot? Or is it in any level after 3-4 minutes? (If you don't have any levels unlocked you can try the challenge mode first floors).

Is there always a music change when the error occurs?

I'm trying to understand if maybe you are reaching a part in the game which is missing assets.

Missing textures can be because you have a corrupt download and this can be fixed with verifying game cache.

I have tried Half Life 2 and works properly. And I just downloaded again all the contect but still the same problem

I'm going to copy the files to my partner's computer and launch the game there, I'll post the result...

Edited: The game works perfectly in my partners computer... So I think it is my computers' fault, I give up for now. Will try more next week.

Thumbs up

I had the same problem as other people in this thread - Zeno Clash beggins to stutter, sound also stutters, and after few seconds all textures are messed up and the game crashes afterwards. I basically was not able to play the game. I had the same problems with Left 4 Dead, and I fixed it by turning off Multicore option. Problem is, there is no such option in Zeno Clash.

SO, I have found a console command that turns off multicore option and fixes the stuttering and crashes.

What you need to do:

- First, enable the console in Zeno Clash. To do this, right click your Zeno Clash icon in "My Games" in Steam, click Properties, then "Set Launch options..." and write "-console".
- Start the game and load your save.
- Press ~ on the keyboard to open the console and then write "mat_queue_mode 0" in the console. Press enter.

And that's basically it. I had constant crashes and stuttering, but this console command resolved all my problems. I didn't lose any FPS either. It really works.

PS. Oh, and you have to use this console command everytime you start the game.

PPS. To anyone in the ACE Team - you've made a really cool game. I have never seen so weird and interesting characters, and such cool vistas and locations. Great job.

Thanks for posting this fix Enzo_0 !

Hopefully it helps out those who are experiencing similar problems.

Damn, I remembered yesterday that I had the same problem with L4D some months ago... I run a full virus scan and there it was, a malware that was impending the game to start Very simple...

I'm sorry for making you losing some time thinking in my stupid problem and thanks very much for your support.

PS as you are in the development team I suppose that you speak Spanish :P Muchas gracias por este gran juego, hacía tiempo que no veía un diseño artístico tan cuidado y original, espero que el material basado en este mundo no acabe aquí. Y el sistema es simplemente genial, los juegos en primera persona nunca se han llevado bien con la lucha cuerpo a cuerpo ni con las plataformas, pero este supera con creces una de esas grandes barreras. Seguid trabajando así!!

Very rare, but a ragdolled enemy may be left lying on the ground beneath an object and never stand up again (because he is being blocked by something). Since levels need enemies to be cleared to progress this will stop the game from advancing.
This bug happened to me at "Chapter 12: Dancing Mad", when fighting Gabel. But something really weird/strange happened :
  • I fought Gabel until he reached around 20% of his health and the "never-stand-up" bug happened (no object/model near him though).
  • So I was there, trying to kick him on the ground (didn't worked), so I grabbed the double-crossbow and started shooting him : it did very little damage, but it was still something. I thought it was a bug.
  • Then, when I was doing the boring job of shooting him, I heard the sound of Gabel charging, turned around and... HO WHAT-THE-HELL! A second Gabel was at 2 meter charging me at full speed, to be honest I pretty much freaked out for a sec or 2, I REALLY didn't expected that at all. "These devs must be crazy !"
  • So I start running and avoiding the 2nd Gabel, but when I tried to hit him : impossible, he was like a ghost, I could walk throught him BUT he could still hit me.
  • So I thought "well, maybe I still have to shoot the 1st Gabel on the ground while avoiding the 2nd one". And I started shooting him again, and again...
  • BUT, when I got the 1st Gabel to 5% HP, the 2nd Gabel ran to him, and start HEALING him back to 20% (there was an animation, the 2nd was on top of the 1st and was doing stuff )
(=> I was like "ho NO WAY, NOT-AGAIN, what I'm freaking supposed to do ?!?!")
  • I tried to kill the 1st Gabel on the ground, but the 2nd finaly killed me...

Before checking a walkthrough video on youtube to see if this was a crazy boss feature or a bug (or both oO), I thought it wasn't a bug.

That prove there's still some crazier gameplay mechanics for ZC2

Hmm, I'm pretty sure you experienced a bug. I don't remember that we added a 'ghost Gabel' feature in that level.

I recently built a new gaming pc and installed windows 7 RC beta on it, after installing steam and getting Zeno Clash downloaded onto my pc, I found that when I tried to start up the game, it simply lead me to a black screen, no sound, nothing just a plain black screen that stays there, I even waited 10 minutes or so to see if anything would happen.

Tried:
- waiting
- Ctrl - Alt - Del
- Esc
- Verify cache
- Reinstalling the game

I'm not sure what else I can do, and I'm assuming Steam has the game up to date? The only thing I could think of is that it might have issues running on windows 7? If anyone could help me out it would be a greatly appreciated.

Someone in our forums posted a similar issue and found a fix. You can read the post here
