Question Can't enable Multicore Rendering in Portal.

I'm trying to enable it in the option menu but it doesn't show at all: (And I do have E8400, so it should allow it.)

any help ?

Same thing with me! I don't think it works unless you have a quad core processor.

LOL then why did they call it MULTIcore ? 2 is multi. It's kinda lame as I think this option will improve performance.

NO. Don't enable that, Portal doesn't actually support multicore rendering. Neither does Episode 2. That box is residue from a previous source engine update. You're not supposed to be able to use it.

Only TF2 and L4D support multicore. You can use mat_queue_mode 2 but you will most likely just crash and get worse FPS.

Echo that. Seems like I read some time ago it is not supported or enabled. I don't think you can enable it unless you hack the game somehow, which would only cause the game to crash anyway. In general there is no point because the game does not have complex graphics that might benefit by tapping into extra threading.

actually multi- core performance improves physics. Graphics are dependent on graphics card.

Isn't that options for those with multi video cards? (SLI or crossfire).

No. Multi-core support is for the CPU, not the GPU(s).

tf2 wasn't coded for multicore and that's why enabling it in tf2 may cause problems, too. e.g. very good fps but weird mouse stuttering.
in portal, the performance goes crazy. fps jumps between 15 and 130 very fast if you force it on...
