Worth $20?

I've heard that Portal is a pretty fantastic puzzle game, which is right up my alley; however, I've also heard that it is incredibly short.

Before anyone responds that it's included in the Orange Box where it is essentially cheaper, know that I'm not a fan of the FPS genre and am not all together interested in Half-Life, and even less interested in Team Fortress 2.

Even if Portal is the BEST GAME EVAR, if it's only 1-3 hours I'd just as soon wait for it to drop in price, so I guess I'm hoping someone can honestly tell me that the game is at least 5-6 hours including replay value.

In any event it sounds like an intriguing game, and I'll definitely play it eventually!

I wasn't either.

I bought the orange box *after buying portal separately*, and have been a huge fan ever since. I have only watched 1 or 2 matches in TF2 mostly because I'm just not that big into pvp, but it's a hilarious game too.

Portal is hardly a "one to three" hour game. It's got a tremendous replay value, plus all manner of mods and maps to install if you're wanting something different with the same theme.

Portal is well worth what *I* paid for it: over 60, so I would say pick up the ob and enjoy the fruits of the other games too - because if you want to use many of the portal mods later, you'll need HL2.

The game itself takes 2-3h, but if you want to go trough all the puzzles and advanced maps, it will take alot of time.

I bought the Orange Box for HL2, actually. Didn't care about Portal, but after playing it for about 15 minutes I decided I liked it a lot. I have never installed TF2 and never intend to.

I bought The Orange Box after buying Portal and I don't regret it at all. Even if you're not into TF2 and Half Life, getting the Orange Box is still the better deal since you get 5 ASTOUNDING games for only $10 more than 1 game.

Portal was one of the best games I've played this year. It's pretty short though, I finished it in less then 5 hours, and I suck at puzzle games.

Most retail stores are selling Portal at $10 and it is exactly the same game as what you get from Steam, except that you get a box and all the stuff that comes with it. Even the Boxed version requires you to install Steam to play Portal.

If you don't know a few of subtle tricks, and don't watch Youtube videos in advance,it can take a lot longer you think. My first time through was well over 20 hours. However, with me, I had no idea what Portal was about, so I had to stumble my way through figuring it out as I went along. Far more fun to play Portal that way rather than reading about the tricks and watching Youtube videos in advance.

Totally worth the money. If I hadn't payed ten dollars for the Orange Box (gift card worth forty when I got it :P ), I'd still pay full price for Portal alone. Yes, it's somewhat short. However, dark humor and a subtle plot, not to mention the game play unlike any other, makes it well worth it. Of course, as others have mentioned, challenges expand the length even more. It's a strange unique game, great times ensured.

As Zekiran said, some of the mods require that you have both Portal and Half-Life 2, so if you want to really extend your gameplay beyond Portal and the challenge maps included with it, you might want to spend the extra $10 for the Orange Box for way more hours of gameplay.

Portal is well worth the money. It is a short game, but the later maps are a real challenge, and took me a while to complete. Just played the entire game again after not playing for 6 months, and enjoyed every second of it.. I've started downloading and playing user made maps and there are some fairly decent maps about. Some are a bit too challenging for me and I end up a little frustrated, but there's Youtube vids for walkthroughs.
It's also nice to play a game where you don't have to shoot people for a change. I recommend Portal to everyone.

Buy the orange box. It's worth it, even if you're not a fps fan. You won't regret it.

It's worth the money, I play this game kind of like how you would watch a movie. Sometimes I'm in a portal mood, and I'll go through the single player in 1 to 3 sittings. But there's also extra challenge maps and plenty of user made content to make your brain "asplode". You really are missing out by not playing it, so I'm glad you do intend on getting it.

I bought the orange box for the hl2 series. but I played portal first.

When you're done go play portal prelude mod. Harder puzzles. it not that big but it still provides 4 hours of gameplay the first time you play it.
