lol, I guess you just "know what to do" and/or got lucky when you gave it a try... or it was easier than you thought, lol

or predict stuff around corners? I guess your daydreams are playing out as you "actually" do stuff, but the player doesn't experience the simultaneous processing that the player character does.

With a whimsical or vivid enough imagination, or the right combination of substances you might be able to.

I think I would fail at this, myself.

Well, it is a factor, right? You run too fast into a room and get insta-gibbed by a piece of falling celling, or you accidentally alert an entire room of baddies and get insta-gibbed on their secondary fire. Lo and behold, Gordon launches grenades right where people are hiding, and positions himself in the most efficient way possible given circumstances he wouldn't have known on the fly. Did Gordon have some sort of ESP when he escaped Black Mesa and brought down the Citadel? Nah, I think we can just say something like, "Had we actually been in that situation, our perceptual experience would not have been constrained to a couple speakers and a small screen sized window, our interaction the the world would have been greater than simply flippng switches and picking stuff up, and our choices would have had much greater weight given the threat of death. So the successful paths Gordon takes as a result of reloading, sort of averages with a hypothetical reality, such that it is better reflective of what would happen if such cases were to happen.

Then why isn't HL2 EP3 out yet? Shouldn't that be able to be quickloaded now? that would prolly get a blue screen of death though.

What I like to do is tell myself that there is no room for screw-ups. I gotta survive, no mather the costs. So if I get a lot of damage from a single enemy that can be taked down withouth even getting damage, I'm not going to quickload. I screwed up, but if it was real - I can't go back in time.

However, there is some truth to daydreaming theory - after all, Gordon is a scientist brain (a nerd lolzords), he is smarter than me, so he can predict how stuff are going to happen better than me. But he can't predict what's around the corner, can he ?

Wow, am I serious about this? What am I talking .

But everyone knows behind that corner is either:
a)Headcrab
b)Shotgun Soldier (be it combine or HECU)
c)Zombie
D)A combination of the 3 fighting among themselves.

The HEV system sends him back through time.

afterall, Gordon is supposed to be a genius scientist. Maybe he can use his brain to actually predict every possible consequence to his actions. Man that's really cool if you think about it

If I have quick save/load I have no problem running full bore into a new room and checking things out till I bleed out. Thats my recon squad. I then reload and send in the fire team, "myself" and clear the room out. I'd send in UAV if they are available. Quickload serves the same purpose though. Of course in any of the HL/HL2 I have them memorized now and don't need any recon. That's where the AI director properly tuned for the HL2 universe would change gamepay quite a lot in Ep3. Still it would be a nice optional thing on Ep2 and back. Maybe if they ever get around to the promised graphical updates we could see that.
