I don't see how that would be anything other than the epitome of uselessness.

It screams nothing but EA influence. And that unsettles me. Because if such a trend were to gain momentum, there's little more but a slippery slope ahead for the venerable Valve Software. Neither you nor Valve will garner any support from me (nor, do I hope, any other right thinking individual) in regards to this terribly low decision to descend into marketing mediocrity and negativity.
Ever since they partnered with EA we seen this coming. When ever EA gets their hands on franchise' they always have to mingle with it. Influencing crap such as these pre-order only hats and special items.

Another example of this interfearing is the Burnout series. By far Burnout 2 is one of my favourate games, classic arcade, unique soundtrack and extremely fun to play. Burnout 3 comes along, and they plaster their stupid body kits and modified cars along with a dreadfull emo soundtrack all over it.

If they want to be publishers fair enough, they will no doubt give financial aid and use thier well grounded company to expand developers titles. But for god sake, leave the games alone.

I just hope it's about them using this as a last resort, rather than a primary, on-going marketing strategy.

I think it's how EA does things, though I don't have a lot of EA games.

I was watching Conan O'Brien last night. The first commercial break they went to, the first ad that played was the L4D2 TV Spot 2. That made me VERY happy. The only thing I really hate about the trailer is the huge EA at the beginning.

Wait, are you guys suggesting EA had a hand in the TF2 hats? I seriously doubt that.

All I heard with TF2 was that EA was working on the PS3 version. nothing else regarding TF2.

No not the tf2 hats, the extras and special unlocks for l4d. Its like EA suggested these kind of gimmicks.

I agree. But I don't know if Valve has done this in the past, before EA got involved...

I dont recall them doing anything like this before. I can imagine EA saying, "hey, people love TF2, why dont you do some special L4D hats to stick in there, just to get a bit of extra milk from the pre-orders".

It really does just seem like a gimmick to me, first the special pre order only bat and now the hats being suddenly thrown in. I couldent give a toss to be honest but, am I the only one who thinks this isnt typically a 'valveish' thing.

Meh... I'm not saying it couldn't be true, I just don't see Valve doing something because a publisher has them do it. They might take it under advisement and use it if it was a good idea/suggestion. However, even though we have not seen this before, it still seems very Valve-like to me. I don't see someone from EA's marketing department being so connected to Valve IPs that they would make a suggestion like that...
