60hz vs 75hz refresh rates
I like to keep my monitor at 75hz refresh rate so the game animates more smoothly, but it blurs text and reduces the overall sharpness.
What are disadvantages/advantages of the difference? |

If you're on an LCD then 60 isn't bad. The blur will hive you a headache, so I do not suggest staying on 75.

On CRT I have to set it to at least 85hz. On LCD 60 is more than fine.

LCD doesn't flicker, so 60Hz is fine. And especially if text goes blurry in 75Hz - there is something wrong with your monitor (which monitor do you own btw?).
Also if you have enabled Vertical synchronization, you don't have to own as powerful graphics card (even if there is not much difference in 60 and 75). |

Theres nothing wrong with the monitor, some just arent designed for more than 60Hz.

If it wasn't designed for 75Hz it would display black screen with 'out of range' error message.
It's probably some cheap monitor. |

You may need to press the auto-adjust button on the monitor if the display quality is messed up when you change the refresh rate.
But as the others have said, 60 Hz is OK for LCDs, it's CRT monitors that need a higher refresh rate to reduce flicker and prevent eye aches. |

I don't know why but the 22" Hanns-G LCD is 75Hz capable (but blurry) and 60Hz native (clear). It doesn't lose signal at 75.

they wont lose signal going to 75hz, but as the others have said 9 out of 10 times text will be blurry using 75Hz and 60Hz will be clear.
Besides, all using a higher refresh rate will do is just lock your FPS to 75 for example instead of 60 when using VSync. if you use vsync anyway. |

Pretty sure most lcd's have a 'gaming' mode button, at least mine does. What it does is eliminating the blur and sharpening up the whole picture including text etc. It looks absolutely horrible when used at native res (1920x1080) because it's too sharp but it looks amazing when using lower res such as 1600x900 etc.
Oh and vsync is baaaaaaaad in my book. |

My reading is out of date, but...
The lcd may be displaying a fixed rate that is independent of the signal you are sending it. The idea is kinda like 'but this one goes to eleven'. They make lcd's that do display higher than 60, but I'm not up on how prevalent they are yet. |

On CRT: Set it to at least 75-100
On LCD: Keep it on 60 |
