*maybe if the hats were as large as the players, made up of over a 100,000polygons, had complex animated 3d textures while emitting particles real time....then they could lower fps....OHH and there would need to be alot of these huge suckers on the screen at once...*

or if they rendered simple particle effects using the CPU

I have 2 Gibuses and Bill's Hat and I'm sick of them now already. It would be nice to go back to the time when seeing a Sniper wear his default hat wasn't the rarest god damn thing.
