[REL] High quality gunfire audio

Hey guys, just thought I'd post a link to my latest realism soundpack http://www.fpsbanana.com/sounds/9316

Basically this is a soundpack for DOD Source which has clean, crisp audio. Nothing is overloud, muddy or garbled. What this should do is improve immersion for players by offering audio which sounds as it would do in real life.
The soundpack features new distant gunshots and some new reload sounds.

Check out the preview and download the pack at FPSBanana!

ALSO check out a pair of K98 sounds I also made that didn't fit the pack, but nevertheless sound awesome http://www.fpsbanana.com/sounds/9313

I like the sounds in this pack so far, but I do have an issue of the volume. I feel like they should be a bit louder. When firing the gun it sounds like I am some feet away from the source.

I think there may be some weirdness too with a few sounds firing in succession though. Will have to play some more to figure out which.

Love the crispness though!

The sounds have a "woosh" effect on some of them. The Garand sounds REALLY odd for some reason, it kinda sounds like laser.

The Thompson and MP40 sound very good, though.

Once in game the sounds do have an oddness to them, I have also noticed that some of the sounds seem to have the channels backwards, so up-close they sound far and from across the map they sound like they are right next to you.

Right channel = distance sounds

The channels are the right way around, I know all about the right channel thanks.
What I did here was to get gunshot sounds for about 500 yards distance from the weapons recorded and use that for the distance shots. Thus the distance gunshots you hear in game are as they would sound in real life, equally the close range gunshots are recorded at close range.

@ Guyver: the Garand should not sound like a laser, it sounds like a Garand :P Perhaps you're thinking of the "ping" clip eject sound?

lol...c'mon dude. I've been playing DoD since beta 3.0 in 2002.

I know what the "ping" eject clip sound is....I'm talking about the firing sound...and in-game, it sounds really odd...and very laser-ish.

After using the sounds for a few days another thing I have noticed is the MG42 .wav should be more than the sound of one shot. Even when tapping the trigger it fires several shots. Currently it just doesn't seem right.

The Garand does sound odd too.

I set the MG42 to work exactly like the original wav file. The original wav file has a 2-round-burst fired, as does mine.
I believe the reason for this is that the DOD team couldn't code in the full rate of fire in for the MG42*, so they halved the rate of fire but gave a 2 round burst to the WAV file.

* it would cause lag.

As for the Garand I don't know what you guys are complaining about, it sounds fine on my machine. To me it sounds "Pa-chaff". It's possible that the Source engine is screwing up the WAV on your machines - the Source engine has something of a reputation for screwing up gunshot audio and other audio in general.

Ok, so now it's our PC'S causing the issue......................come on.

We're giving constructive criticism and you're blaming our PC's.
