Why don't squad leaders give orders?

I don't understand why no-one gives attack or defend orders in this game.
It's not like it hinders you in any way, and you get extra points for doing things you'd be doing anyway. :S

Probably has something to do with 90% of squad leaders I've been with playing recon and sitting a million miles away from the objectives.

squad leader is everybody...anybody can give attack and defend orders...

or you can you know say "hey let's try to get A"

it would help if you said what game you're talking about

I dont think every1 is SQ leader, cuz sometime i tried to give att/def order, it doesnt work, I think only the high ranking player in a SQ can give order.

I doubt I'm the highest rannking person in my squad every game, I always mark something, potential free points.

Oh really? I could have sworn that sometimes it didn't work. Well that makes things easier, now to just convince people to stick together.

Bad Company 2. Though I played BF2142 ages back, and I had the same problem there.

I think the squad leader is the first person who joined the squad
he can also lock the squad in the menu(with the little lock)
because most of time i can give orders,unless i join an existing squad

after so many orders you get a medal or pin or whatever. 50 of each, i believe (attack and defend)

One of the pins is to receive an attack and defend order in the same round... I've done and received the orders MANY times, yet I've NEVER gotten the pin. Is this pin broken or something? It's basically the last pin I need...

I've gotten a stack of times by giving out the orders. The description is wrong though, you have to successfully attack (and capture) a point while under an attack order, and successfully kill one person trying to capture a point while under a defend order.

In all the hours I've played this game, I still don't know when I have received an order, and I don't know how to give them.

I've gotten the pin for receiving them, though.

If you can give them out, place your crosshair over a blue/orange point square/diamond, and press "q". You will give an audio cue "Let's all attack this point! (or something to that effect)".
The point will now have a reticle of four lines pointing to it of its colour for you and all your squad members.

Yes.

It's not like anyone pays attention to your socializations anyway, unless you've spotted an enemy.

Rarely have I pressed Q on an engineer and he has repaired my vehicle.
Rarely have I pressed Q on an assault and he has dropped ammo.
Rarely have I pressed Q on a medic and he has dropped health.

I'm sure looking at an objective and pressing Q will do nothing, considering the people who are trying to get the objectives... well... are already trying to get the objectives, and the people who aren't... probably aren't going to listen to your cheesy socialization telling them to.

That is all.

only time i press q is when i see an enemy or to give orders to attack/defend a point regardless of whether i'm squad leader or not
