Mulitplayer Username Change

During multiplayer, Steam uses your e-mail address up to the @ for your username. I wanted to change the username, so on Steam I changed my e-mail address and verified it. But when I played the game again, it had my own e-mail. Anyone know how to change this?

I mean "old" e-mail.
