There is activation, at least that's what the cyanide faq says. Even for the Steam version. Is that correct? If so, no buy.

I wasn't asked for a CD key or to verify when launching the game, Although there is a thing called "gamecentre" which wants to install alongside the game.

I have not done this, so I don't think you actually HAVE to install it.
