[Known Issue] Crash on OS X 10.5.8 with Intel GMA graphics
Some users have encountered a situation in which Torchlight crashes while running under Mac OS X 10.5.8. This issue only occurs in combination with Intel GMA graphics cards. The exact nature of this problem remains a matter of continuing investigation; however, here's an update to let you know what we know at this point.
Apple includes kernel mode graphics drivers with Mac OS X which can only be updated by Apple. The OpenGL drivers for Intel GMA graphics cards included with Mac OS X 10.5.8 are version 1.2 and there are no further updates available for these chipsets on Mac OS X 10.5. Through investigation, we have determined that the reason some users; specifically, those running 10.5.8 and who had ATI or nVidia graphics cards, didn't experience a problem was because the OpenGL drivers for their graphics cards were version 1.3 or newer. In addition, Mac OS X 10.6 has updated OpenGL drivers for the Intel GMA chipset, which also do not cause Torchlight to crash. Though we are working diligently to try to resolve this situation for users running 10.5.8, the only known resolution at this time requires updating to Mac OS X 10.6, a $29 operating system upgrade available from Apple. Our apologies for the inconvenience. Thank you for your patience. Last edited by BrianW: 10-10-2012 at 06:38 PM. |
