max servers on one box
Besides bandwidth, i already know waht I could do with what bandwidth I have or will have.
But I was wondering if it is efficent to run more than one server on a single machine. I have a p4 1.5 ghz with 512 ram. I was thinking atleast 2 maybe even more. |

Your ram will be the biggest limiting factor in my opinion. I have a Dual Opteron 242 system on which I run two 16 player servers. When they are both full and the servers have been thought the map cycle a few times (everything is cached) i'm using over 1.2gb of ram. Now that's not to say I could not get by with less it's just that the disk will be used a lot more which will increase the delay when changing maps, writing logs etc.

Depends on the server sizes...
I use a 2.4 ghz, 1 gig ram and run websites, TS, 2 20 man source public servers and a 20 man private. Runs smoothly with both publics full and they get up to 30% or so cpu usage each.... I did have 30 man server up and it would hit about 70% cpu usage for the first parts of maps.... |
