Anyone with sonic 3 and knuckles please reply,

I'm considering buying the game on steam, but my favourite aspect of the game was allowing a friend to be tails and assist sonic, can you do that on a pc? Would you need two usb controllers? Could you control a keyboard so two people could use it? Or could someone else who has the game join you over steam?
Any info would be great, and same Q's for sonic 2.

Well, you can use 2 gamepads, or use a keyboard and a gamepad, or both players use the keyboard. Just gotta assign the controls in the launcher options.
