[BUG] Killing Floor has Lag when STEAM Overlay/Popups on screen
Good Day All,
I have been experiencing an issue with Killing Floor on my new [10week old, Mid 2010 edition] MacBookPro 7,1 (13"): * Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz * 4GB Memory * NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics - 256MB * Snow Leopard (fully updated) * Running on Mains When ever the STEAM Overlay (default: SHIFT+TAB) is used [in game or main menu] the overlay is extremely slow and the mouse is overly sensitive. For example: if i try type a message to a friend, it takes around 5 seconds from when I enter the letter before it shows up on the screen. This is fine, Im not really using the STEAM overlay for chatting in game... However..... When I am in KF and I obtain an achievement, the entire time the achievement popup is displayed (Slide up, pause, slide down) my KF is lagging. As soon as the popup disappears its fine. I have tested about 9 other Mac Games and none have this issue. I even opted in to the latest steam beta client... No luck. I have checked the TripWire and Steam forums (http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=1657036), however I was unable to find this issue mentioned. Does anyone have a similar machine without this issue? I attempted to: 1. Updated drivers (already the latest) 2. Reinstall STEAM and d/l KF 3. Defragged the drive and STEAM files for KF 4. Removed the .blob file 5. Disable Expose and Spaces 6. Stop all other background apps 7. Cold Start (shut down for 3 hours, boot on power) I have tested all the games for Mac I own, and here are the results: 1. Killing Floor 2. Half-Life 2 3. Half-Life 2: Death Match 4. Half-Life 2: Episode 1 5. Half-Life 2: Episode 2 6. Counter-Strike: Source 7. Day Of Defeat: Source 8. Portal 9. Team Fortress 2 10. Left For Dead 11. Left For Dead 2 12. Eve Online 13. Flight Control HD 14. Poker Night at the Inventory 15. World of Goo 16. Eets - No Overlay? 17. Madballs in...Babo: Invasion 18. Swords and Soldiers HD Non-STEAM Games with Overlay: 1. Starcraft 2 Overall, I have tested 20 games on my MacBook Pro and only Killing Floor has this lag issue... Does anyone have this issue or a solution? I posted this 2 months ago on the tripwire forum without success.... Source: http://forums.tripwireinteractive.co...ad.php?t=49240 |

Probably best for you to contact Steam Support/Valve directly if they don't see it here

Overlay lag.
Hi dude, I'm also getting this lag from the overlay. Mine was pretty recent. About 2 weeks back. It seemed to happen after a steam client update. It's really upsetting.
No news on your end?

I can confirm this problem on a Mac Mini with similar specs, I had to turn the overlay off. Currently I am unable to test as the latest beta has broken the overlay completely.

There are no overlay changes (or weren't supposed to be) in that beta. |

I'm having the exact same issue and like Twobit_za can replicate it. I've tried the following games:
Day of Defeat: Source L4D L4D2 Team Fortress 2 Portal Killing Floor Killing Floor is the only game that suffers from the slow down. Machine specs: Mac Mini 2011 (MacMini 4,1) 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 8 Gigs 1067 DDR3 RAM NVIDIA GeForce 320M - 256mb vram Resolution: 1440 x 900 |

UPDATE:
So I was searching around for solutions, and I found a thread about KF crashing on Lion. I don't have Lion, but the Tripwire Mac developer was saying something about the way the newest version of KF renders graphics and uses the graphics card. He offered a solution to try to narrow down the crash in Lion. I thought to myself that the graphics rendering may be related to the overlay as well. Long story short, the fix for Lion fixes the overlay issue, however there is the drawback of lower FPS. This can get cumbersome during large waves of specimens. Anyway, here's the fix: 1. Shift+Command+G in finder 2. Paste: ~/Library/Application Support/Killing Floor/System 3. Open Killing Floor.ini 4. Look for AppleVA = 1 5. Change the 1 to a 0. 6. Save the file, close it and launch KF. The steam overlay pops up immediately without slow down. Like I said though, you do lose FPS during game play as you are actually lowering the the way the graphics card processes the game. Hopefully this helps some of you. |

@yanxi No problem! I saw you had posted the link to this forum over at Tripwire forums. FPS is definitely an issue, however, like other people, I no longer die when any of my friends log in to steam or the game.
I'm hoping someone at Tripwire sees the post and can respond. Unlike sgshredhead over at the Tripwire forums, no KF update fixed the issue for me (or seemingly you as well). |
