Game won't start up

As the title... starting the game gives me an empty window frame in the middle of the screen and 100% CPU usage. This never goes away and I have to kill the process.

WinXP SP3, Athlon 64 3200, 2Gb RAM, Geforce 7800 GS

Try verifying game files in the Steam Libary. Perhaps that fixes the problem.

Are you using a bluetooth headset or speaker kit? The last person I saw with an issue like this had some funky headset and when they used builtin or wired speakers there were no issues.
