I played this when it first came out, but had uninstalled it since then.
Now with the game on sale and all, I'm hoping to get back into multiplayer (hoping there will be more new players)... But when I try to create a new profile using the same name I used before "HerbertFilby" it says that "Username already taken" Anyone have any ideas how I can "reclaim" my old username?

It never prompts me for a password :\
The only option I have is "Create new profile" Is there some file I can edit/create somewhere that I can tell it to assign my username so I CAN enter a password somewhere? |

I think it only uses your cdkey, and with that you can access the profiles you created (I think you can create a few of them with different nicks), or create a new one with a different nickname. I only tried this game a few months ago at a friend's though, so I may be wrong.
It may be that unused nicks gets freed for other users again, but again I'm not sure. |

Just got an email from Raven Software confirming that I have a different CD key (since I just bought it on steam) so I'm buggered.

On the upside, pretty cool that you got an email from Raven Software in response to your issue. How did you contact them? Their main email address on their website?
But yeah, username is tied to CD key. I wonder if it would be possible to edit a game file or something in the registry so that the steam version uses your retail CD key? Or you can just slightly alter your username by using symbols like . or - or whatever. (And have the joy of ranking up again, heh.) It's a shame that the PC version doesn't have achievements/trophies. Normally I don't care about such things, but some of the Singularity ones were quite fun. Wouldn't have to be Steam achievements - FEAR 2 and Mass Effect 1 had their own built-in achievement systems. |
