Bring back old-school, underrated Terminator games.
Are any of you familiar with the games Terminator: Future Shock and it's standalone add-on, SkyNET? Over a decade ago I got those games, and despite not being very popular, those games were really good. I think the problem was that they were before their time. These games were the first FPS's that I can think of that had an open terrain and had 3D enemies (even though a lot of the items in the game were sprites). They were uniquely story-driven and, I could be wrong here, were also the first FPS's (or one of the first) to also include driving and flying.
These games were some of Bethesda's earlier work, coming out back when they first started doing the Elder Scrolls stuff. I think they should release these games on Steam. I would so get them again. I would say the same for Terminator: Rampage, but I never played that game and I hear that game wasn't that good and was quite rushed. |

I personally don't give a damn whether another person thinks a game is crap or not. Someone will buy if it's made available. All games should be available or be freeware. The publishers need to pull their collective heads out of their asses and see it is pure profit for them as long as they include all the patches that came out for the games.
I vaguely remember playing a demo of a Dos FPS Terminator game maybe 2 years back on DosBox. It was fun. I think it was a FPS. Last edited by MADDOGGE: 08-27-2009 at 06:25 PM. |

This made me shed one tear. Future Shock was SO far ahead of it's time, and still plays great, in terms of exploration and driving. Plus just hearing the Endoskeleton's servos whining would put the fear of death in you, because they were a pain in the ♥♥♥ and had those really loud machine guns. Man. C'mon Bethesda! They REALLY should make NEW Terminator games. I'd die and go to heaven if Bethesda got the license back.

Doesn't Atari currently own the rights to Terminator video games? I hear the all the Terminator games that have come out in recent years (everything from Dawn of Fate all the way up to Salvation last year) were a load of smelly crap. I remember playing Dawn of Fate when it came out.... horrible.
When it comes to Terminator games that are past the 16-bit generation, the only two good ones I came across were Future Shock and SkyNET. I wouldn't mind playing Rampage if it's patched up, I was just speaking on the behalf of other opinions I've read that it was rushed and craptastic. Also, I kinda figured SkyNET was officially a sequel and not a stand-alone add-on, I just refer it to as such because SkyNET is WAY too short of a game to really be considered a stand-alone. That's why I say it's best played as an add-on to Future Shock, because other than it being too too short, it's a fun ♥♥♥♥ing game. Now here's the deal: If they were to release Future Shock and Skynet, and the way it's done is that Future Shock will be played in SkyNET mode, they HAVE to make a patch, if it can be created, to make all sprites non-holographic. In other words, in Future Shock, you'll need to actually be able to kill Bishop when you get to that mission instead of just shooting him and all your ammo just goes through him. In the original release of Future Shock, sprites were touchable and ♥♥♥♥, and hence when you shot Bishop, it killed him properly. However, in SkyNET, which slightly enhanced a few of the details and visuals but overall was the same exact game engine, all of the sprites were holograms, meaning you walked and/or shot straight through them. Because of that, when you played Future Shock on SkyNET mode, you couldn't get past the kill Bishop mission because Bishop was a sprite, and hence everything you shot at him went through him, hence you had to cheat in order to complete the mission. So hopefully, they can make a patch for SkyNET and fix that small little issue. I'm sorry if that was too much info for one subject. I have a bad habit of beating around the bush like that. |

These were awesome!
Mainly because, as I remember it, they were the first games I ever played to feature vehicles (including aircraft) in multiplayer. I can't think of any other "Quake-style" FPS's at the time that featured vehicles in deathmatches--so in that sense they really were ahead of their time. They were insanely buggy, though. I remember them crashing constantly and I even seem to remember a few very frustrating in game bugs, so I wouldn't hold my breath for a steam release. |
