Setting up all Xbox 360 Controller buttons/sticks/triggers to play in JE
I am able to get most of everything working on my xbox 360 wireless controller (I still have problems with the LT and RT triggers being treated like axis and not buttons-minor annoyance). In order to do this though, you will need to edit the Jade Empire configuration settings file. The in-game controller configuration is useless and just can't do squat.
You will need to do the following: 1) Locate the "JadeEmpire"-without quotations- (Configuration Settings) file – Usually in the \Steam\steamapps\common\jade empire directory 2) Suggest copying it to another location and renaming it to JadeEmpire_Original before making any changes to the file. If you screw up, at least you have a backup of this file. 3) Open the JadeEmpire (Configuration Settings) file using Notepad. 4) Now scroll down until you locate [Controller (Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows)] – This is where you assign each function to the button you want. The guide for buttons is as follows: A button = Button 1 B button = Button 2 X button = Button 3 Y button = Button 4 LB button = Button 5 RB button = Button 6 Back button = Button 7 Start button = Button 8 Left Stick button = Button 9 Right Stick button = Button 10 Left Stick (Left/Right movement) = Left StickX Left Stick (Up/Down movement) = Left StickY Right Stick (Left/Right movement) = Right StickX Right Stick (Up/Down movement) = Right StickY LT trigger = Left StickZ RT trigger = Right StickZ When you're done making the changes, don't forget to save the file. HTH. This is my Configuration (as an example): [Controller (Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows)] Movement L/R=Left StickX Movement U/D=Left StickY Look L/R=Right StickX Look U/D=Right StickY Menu=Button 8 Combat Pause=Button 9 Fight Style 1=Hat 1 Fight Style 2=Hat 1 Fight Style 3=Hat 1 Fight Style 4=Hat 1 Attack=Button 1 Block=Button 3 Strong Attack=Button 2 Focus=Button 4 Chi Strike=Button 6 Chi Heal=Button 5 Target Left=Left StickZ Target Right=Right StickZ No Target=Button 9 Free Look=Button 10 ***Please note: Free look is disabled by default. This is a feature that allows you to see though your characters eyes (First Person perspective). If you want this feature enabled, just look for: [Config1] and change to Free Look=v (or to any key input you want) [InputOptions] and change to Free Look=1. Also, if you look under \Steam\steamapps\common\jade empire\docs directory, you'll find the art book and poster that came with the retail copy (both in PDF format). Enjoy. |

You, my good man, are a legend of legendary proportions. Tales of your excellence shall be told for generations.
Seriously, this is just what I came on the forums to find, thanks .edit: that said it doesn't appear to work flawlessly, the game seems confused as to whether I'm clicking left or right. Last edited by Nafe: 12-30-2009 at 02:46 AM. |

I've got Pinnacle Game Profiler and might tweak the button config more. Just have to figure out how to remove the in-game controller support (they seem to override the profiler at times). |

Does this game benefit from using a joystick? I guess this is much more of a button-masher than Mass Effect or Dragon's Age, right?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I just plugged in a xbox controller and it works without setting anything up? The D-pad selects powers, A and X work the attacks Left Stick runs and Right Stick rotates camera.
Edit: So this is for editing RT, LT only, ok cool nevermind. |

And by "JadeEmpire (Configuration Settings)" he means JadeEmpire.ini.

Is anyone else having trouble with diagonal movement? I know I can just use the camera while running forward but it's kind of annoying in certain situations; when I force the joystick diagonally, my character just starts walking instead of running. Is this supposed to happen?

I played and loved this on the Xbox and when I tried the PC version I was instantly put off by the way you rotated on the spot with the mouse, like spinning with no animation. Does using a pad "fix" this?
