Monkey Island 2 - Tech Notes & Fun stuff

Hey all, a quick little troubleshooting and "fun stuff" guide for Monkey Island 2 -

Dependencies

Monkey Island 2 requires the February 2010 version of DirectX to run. Although a smaller version of this is installed with the game, you can get the full package here -

Also included is an install of the Visual C++ Redist (2008). If for some reason this doesn’t install correctly... get the VCredist package here

fun stuff!

Verb Bar – This is an unsupported addition to the PC Version. It's buried away in your settings.ini file. It will work in conjunction with the Context Driven Radial Menu. Moving your mouse to the bottom of the screen will slide out all verbs letting you choose any action as if in classic mode.

Once you create a savegame a settings file will be created – NOTE some of these folders/files may be hidden on your system properties.
Vista/Win7 – C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\LucasArts\Monkey Island 2 Special Edition
Windows XP - C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\LucasArts\Monkey Island 2 Special Edition
Open up the Settings.ini file and you will see an entry called “VerbToolbar=0”. If you change that to “1”, this will enable the Verb Toolbar.
Save Changes and reload the game.

Direct Control – The Xbox 360 Version lets users directly control Guybrush with the analog stick. If you plug a 360 controller into your PC, you should be able to control guybrush directly. You can also turn direct control "off" and still play with a 360 gamepad by turning "directcontrol=1" to a zero in the above mentioned settings.ini file.

Wow, thanks, why would they not have that verb bar option in the game? That's the way to go, at least have an option for it.

If you have trouble finding the folder you can also go to start/run/ and type or copy paste: %appdata%

BTW, it looks like the inventory button on the verb bar was not completed, shame, but still the verb bar is crucial.

I wont be buying le chucks revenge id like to. love the monkey island games but couldnt get the first version going. steam took £7 off me and i never got the game working and im not the only one!
