Atari and Sony plan sequel to Ghostbusters video game

http://content.usatoday.com/communit...-game/1?csp=34

When spring 2011 rolls around, it's ghostbusting time again.

Atari and Sony are teaming up for Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime, a new video game scheduled for release on the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live and Windows PC Download. Players take the role of the rookie, hired by the original ghostbusters in 2009's Ghostbusters: The Video Game, which sold more than 1 million copies.

Game Hunters got this exclusive first glimpse at a pair of early screen shots of the game, being developed by Wanako.

The four-player adventure game -- playable locally or online -- lets players again don a proton pack and fend off a new supernatural threat. Promised are gigantic bosses that require teamwork and the entirety of the ghostbusting arsenal: the proton stream, plasma inductor and the fermion shock.

This game represents a passing of the Ghostbusters guard in the video game realm at least, as none of the actors who appeared in the films such as Bill Murray and Dan Ackroyd are scheduled to appear.

Players do get a perk in that, for the first time, they get to drive one of the Ghostbuster mobiles, the Ecto-3.

Update at 3:13 p.m. ET: Just learned players will actually get to drive the Ecto-4WD, not the Ecto-3.

From what I read, this seems to be a much lower budget game than Ghostbusters - The Video Game itself. Too bad because I found it awesome having the original voice actors any everything. I guess it didn't sell well enough for the there to be the needed funding for a full blown sequel.

None of the originals scheduled to appear? Fail.

Ghostbusters is NOTHING without the original 4. Nothing. I think that's why Ghostbusters: VG failed... you played some rookie that never talked and had no personality instead of getting to choose who you wanted to play. Add in the fact that story mode wasn't multiplayer :\

I didn't see it until today so it's probably newly added. It gave a chance for datagonal to sound like a jerk though so his e-peen can grow ever larger.

It will make sense, because remember, the end of GB you get sent off to open a franchise?

It will be a new location, all new GB game, it has potential if this is true.

A lower budget is no problem when the engine is already done.

For example, GTA IV cost 100 million dollars to make. The next GTA will probably end up being stated at 30 to 50 million, tops.

I don't really see how it's a sequel -- it's a totally different type of game. Isometric shoot-em-up co-op versus FPS/heavy cutscene adventure. Not saying it's a bad thing but the engine is completely different. Games aren't even remotely related short of both being Ghostbusters games.

true but some games completely change their format such as Fallout 3.

Designing a character that never talked, had little personality, and looked as generic as possible was one of the best decisions they made in GB:TVG. It allows every player to assume the role as himself being a Ghostbuster, teamed up with the actual Ghostbusters.

If they made it like the first game that would be awesome for a Third.
