Virus from steam???

Hi guys, I know this is unlikley but please hear me out.
I've had a steam account with free to play for a while, however wanted to add friends etc so purchased a cheap game that I thought I might enjoy. Ibomber defence.

Once I had installed the game I tried to run it and get the following "This game is currently unavailable please try again later" from steam. My AVG anti virus then pops open displaying "Trojan Horse Pakes.kmr" in the Ibomber game folder.

I've deleted the local content and the virus goes, when i re-download it comes back. Is there something in this file that shouldnt be? Is my anti virus just being over sensative?
anyone use Ibomber & AGV antivirus who an help me out, as no opetion will let me play the game.

AVG is prone to false positives. You need to make an exception for Ibomber. As to Microsoft Security Essentials, IMO it's a resource hog. I'm currently using Avast and have not yet had a problem.

Okay, apparently you didn't read the part where I specified that it was my opinion. I've used MSE and it hogged my cpu's resources. If it's not doing so for your rig, then hooray. BTW, Avast is using 6MB on my PC.

I've been using Avast! for years and never had one problem. *knocks on wood*

You should try that first.

omg please dont promote that trash as good security for people ...it sucks big time.

Anyway , to the OP , you dont have a virus , your AVG software giving you a false positive meaning AVG thinks its a virus but its getting it wrong.

Apart from changing virus software , you can just add the file its picking up in steam to the AVG excluded / safe list.

That way it wont throw a wobbly every time you try and play a certain game.

I cant post evidence , the only evidence I have is my word which says I had it on a non gaming machine in the house , it slowed it down so much and missed so many infections it was unreal.
Even when it detected some , it would spend an eternity trying to clean it only to fail.

Stuck avast on it and it was clean in no time.

You should probably switch to Avast if you don't want to pay a subscription fee, not sure how good MSE is.

Smile false-positive

Hi,

I'm from the Developer, this is a false-positive I'm afraid. We don't know why it is happening but we are looking at it.

We have notified Steam of this.

pepsi..

When I was using MSE it took two hours just to do a quick scan. Other programs ran like molasses while the scan was running. I hate to think how long the process would have been for a full system scan.
