1) Make sure Support DXT Texture Formats in the Catalyst Control Centre is enabled ( 3D >> More Settings).

2) Open ScourgeEngine.ini and set the following (the ini file is in your documents folder):

[Engine.ISVHacks]
DisableATITextureFilterOptimizationChecks=False
bInitializeShadersOnDemand=True
PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=True

[SystemSettings]

Installation problems has been fixed and you should not be forced to do any additional manual work.

Some users posted a problem with their PhysX installation. To be able to run the game you need a PhysX Runtime that supports SDK version 2.8.1. To download the latest version please get it from here.



On some installation no post-script installation has been launched and therefore the installation process is not correctly finished.

If that is your case (you didn't seem any post installation request dialog for PhysX, DirectX, ...) please go to your Steam installation folder for the game:

<Steam_Install_Path>/Commons/The Scourge Prokect Ep1-2/Binaries/redist/

and run every .exe you found in all subfolders:

* dxredist\
- DXSETUP.exe
* physx\
- PhysX_8.10.29_SystemSoftware.exe
- (Only Demo) PhysX_9.10.0224_SystemSoftware.exe
* vcredist\
- vcredist_x86.exe
- vcredist_x86_2005.exe

- Audio crashes

Some audio crashes are related to hardware acceleration. To disable Sound Acceleration follow these steps:
  1. 1. Click Start.
  2. 2. Click Run.
  3. 3. Type in DXDIAG into the available text field, and press OK.
  4. 4. Once the DirectX Diagnostic tool has loaded, click on the Sound tab.
    1. 1. This tab will show you your sound device and drivers.
    2. 2. Warning: Should this tab be blank, refer to your computer manufacturer for the proper sound drivers.
  5. 5. In the DirectX Features section, adjust the slide bar from where it is currently to Basic acceleration.
    1. 1. Warning: This may disable advanced audio features which worked previously in other games. Should you notice a negative change in any other game, simply change the acceleration level back to where it was or to Full Acceleration.
  6. 6. Click the Exit button.
  7. 7. Start your game, and verify that the game now works properly.

Another audio issue could come from an incorrect frequency setting. You can fix it doing the following (in Vista):
  1. 1) Click Start and then Control Panel. Once there select the Sound option.
  2. 2) Select the 'Playback' tab.
  3. 3) Select your current playback device (the one with the green check-mark on it) and click Properties button on the bottom right.
  4. 4) Select the Advanced tab and under Default Format drop down menu choose 16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality).(take note of the previous value in case you want to restore it later)
  5. 5) Click OK on the Properties dialog and OK again on the Sound dialog and close Control Panel window.
  6. 6) Run the game.

- No Sound problems

We have found some issues that prevent the end user to have sound related to XAudio2 (DirectX Audio System) used in the engine. We have found several tips and fixes so that XAudio2 will work propperly for you:
  1. Surround Sound. If you have a 7.1 audio system it is possible that the sound will not work correctly. To solve the issue switch your speaker configuration to 5.1 and you will get the sound problems solved. If you have a 4.x/Quadraphonic configuration please change it to 2.1.
  2. Creative X-F. With some sound cards like Creative X-FI you need to install the latest drivers but before doing this you have to uninstall the existing them. The best way to do this is using Driver Sweeper which makes sure that the old ones will be cleaned-up.
  3. USB Headsets. It seams that some USB headsets are not working properly. In some cases it can be fixed reinstalling the drivers (to uninstall them properly please use a tool like Driver Sweeper. If you are still having problems please set your sound device 'Default Format' (Sound device -> properties -> advanced ->) to 16 bit, 44100hz (CD Quality)
  4. If still no sound. In some cases just lowering the speaker setting and/or the 'Default Format' is solves the issues.

- Use key problems
In some strange situation your interaction key could get blocked and you are unable to do any action (revive squad-mate, hacking consoles, ...).
We are working on fixing this annoyance but for the moment you can restore the functionality by cycling through your weapons until you are able to perform actions again. With that you are going to be able to do interactions again and continue the game without having to reload checkpoint or anything.

I did everything in this post and I still cannot launch the game. I even reinstalled steam. It doesn't even start up. It just says 'this program is not responding and will close, etc. Crash error report posted below

Thank you! All I did was uninstall Physx and everything else nvidia related, launched the game, had it reinstall from there, and it now works.

I appreciate your help!

Hi, I have a different problem. My game starts just fine, yesterday I could even log in to my GS id, but not today. It gives me an error that the service is down or st, but I can still log in via the website :s.

But the real problem is that when I start a new game (with and without squad), the first map loads, I hear (a) scream(s) and I get an orange window with a timer for 4s. After the timer runs out the game hangs.

Update:
(Haven't installed new drivers yet btw)

A friend wanted to try coop, so I thought wth and tried it. Game works fine now, with the exception that he can't join me.
Also I don't get a lobby or anything the game just starts.
My friend uses the demo btw. I also can't join him and I don't see any games at all (port 8778 is open) either in coop or any type of multiplayer.
I've checked ranked/unranked internet with/without char filters; nothing.

I've checked the SP again with a different char, but same issue, level loads I hear ppl dying and it hangs (but I can just play the coop campaign by myself so that is not rly an issue anymore. Though it is a mystery why coop works and SP doesn't :s)

Old bug still not fixed

From time to time, randomly, my friend can not fire a weapon or cycle weapons. The only way we found is for him to log out and back into the game. This is on campain coop mode.

I seen on page 1 there was an update that was suppost to fix it. We have version 1.41 and is threw steam. Can we expect another patch?

I was playing scourge yesterday and everything worked just fine.

What the heck is going on? Error code 51? (please note that my other games launch without problems)
