Major Lag

I recently purchased The UnderGarden. It downloaded normally. There were no errors. When I opened it to play it, however, it began to lag horribly, so much so that it is unplayable. It doesn't crash as far as I know. I've only managed to play through a few minutes.

My drivers have been updated. I've tried the whole Canada thing. I have no idea what could be causing the lag. My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit).

Does anyone know how I can fix the lag?
