So the Oct 4 DLC is not going to be on Steam...
...for the PS3 version?
I thought the whole point of Steam on PS3 is so we would get the free updates & patches and not mess around with the downloading/installing the updates thru PSN. Can anyone confirm? Quote:

It doesn't seem that way. I'd guess that Steam will be used to install updates for the game, while DLC (added content) will need to be downloaded manually. Actually, I'm all for that. On the PC, Steam is running all the time, so it can download DLC. On the PS3, Steam is only running when Portal 2 is running. So you'd need to start the game and then leave it on for a while to get the DLC. Stuff that you download from the PlayStation Store can be downloaded in the backgrounds while playing another game, watching videos etc.

Im pretty sure, seeing as it's free it'll probably be in the form of a Patch.

Lame it's a 1+ gig download from PSN (for free of course), plus Portal 2 has a 20 meg patch when you launch it.
