A few questions before I buy this game....

I played the first level of Avatar at a friends house right after Christmas of 2009 and really liked it. So I have finally decided to buy it. Before I do though, I just had a few questions that worried me when I played it before.

1. I remember the save system being very console-ish. Is it possible to have two different characters saved on my profile? One for the Na'vi side and one for the RDA? Does it only allow one character per playthrough and then you have to start a new game all over again?

2. After the main storyline is complete, can you continue playing freely?

3. I remember my friend telling me that you can fly both The Great Leonopteryx (Na'vi) and the Dragon Assault Gunship (RDA) at the end of the game. Can you fly either of them any other time in the game? Like after the main game is complete? If the answer to question 2 is yes. It would be soo much fun if you could!

Anyway...any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Buy it. The most amazing graphics I have ever seen.

Early on in the game
Spoiler:
you have to choose to be either na'vi or RDA. That choice stays until the end of the game. Na'vi only fly Banshees, RDF flies gunships. I played both ways, you can start another game.

Save system is fine. Checkpoints are really well placed, don't worry. Plus quick save on the PC version.
Couple of spots you may get stuck at, but read the threads here and you will find your way.

When the game is over, as far as I know, it's over. There isn't any "free roam" I found.

Ok...but you didn't really answer my questions above. I know you can fly the Banshees and such since I have played the first level of the game before and read the game manual, but my friend told me what you can do later in the game.

Can you have more then one character to play with or does it overwrite your last saved character when you start a new game? Meaning you can't play RDA and the Na'vi at the same time.

When I mean "free roam", I mean does it allow you to continue playing or do you have to start a whole new game? I heard about people going back after the main story is complete and completing sector challenges. What about question 3 of my first post?

Umm, yes, I thought I did answer your questions.

You cannot play both Na'vi and RDF at the same time. You can have more than one character, of course, different profiles. But if you switch profiles, basically it's a new/ different game.

When the game is over, it's over. No free roam.

Maybe the console version is different, I don't know.

That's what I asked. If you can have multiple characters on one profile. So one for RDA and one for Na'vi. What about question 3 of my first post, about The Great Leonopteryx (Na'vi) and the Dragon Assault Gunship (RDA)?

Thanks for answering one of my questions though. It is rather odd the developers would make a game with "sector" challenges to complete throughout the game but not make it accessible after finishing the main story. So if I forgot to complete some sectors once I complete the main story, I'm basically screwed? As far as being able to go back and complete them?

Dunno about the gunship, never did finish the game as RDF. As for the Great Whatchamacallit, at one point in the game you do get to ride that huge Banshee.

And, as I said, you can have multiple characters, many choices, but switching between them is basically a seperate game, your progress will stay with that individual character. Multiple characters have to have their own profiles.

As far as the game itself, I got stuck quite a few times not being able to finish a section. I don't know how you can get to the end without finishing all the sections. The game never let me advance, anyways.

Ahhh..k. That answers most of my questions now. Although I knew you could fly both The Great Leonopteryx and the Dragon Assault Gunship. What about being able to ride them again a second time? Is it just a one time thing?

Thanks for your help so far.

It's a one time thing. You can't go back and ride em again. It sucks but just a minor annoyance. On the console version, you can go back and play the levels again but you cannot fly anything. I have yet to beat the PC version I'm not sure if you can free roam after beating the game.

No, you cannot free roam. All you get is the closing credits. But, as I tried to explain, you can start a new game with a different character and name, and choose a different path when it's time to make a decision. I've finally finished as RDF a few months ago, I prefer Na'vi.

Did you try loading the game again? Does it take you to the last level or are you not able to load the game after beating it? On the console, you can load the game again and it takes you to the last level but you can transport to anywhere you please. You cannot load the recent checkpoint and try to beat it again though.

I think you can still go back to the last checkpoint, but you can't go back a level. So I suppose you can mess around in the last part before the ending. I've never tried it, so I'm not 100%.
