Its also in group 3 of the periodic table. Your tin-foil heavy joke may actually have merit.

Insofar as lanthanum having a number of 57 and belonging in group 3 of the periodic table may be relevant in some way, but extrapolating from the number 57 and the word lanthanum that Valve will release two as yet unannounced games is a bet of a stretch.
