Unable to Enter into a game

The game starts and I get to the intro menu correctly. I can't continue from there. Every time I press Campaign, Skirmish, or Load a game the music continues and the button Campaign, Skirmish, or Load stays white but nothing happens for a long while (I am still able to move the cursor but it won't affect anything). After the music finishes and stops for a bit the Campaign, Skirmish, and Load all become greyed out until I select a profile and the same thing happens if I try them again.

What I've tried: Changing the resolution and graphics to minimum. I tried to play with the profile I was given, deleting and creating a new profile, and loading an old profile I had saved (my previous computer which I sold had windows XP 32bit specs-AMD, Geforce with 512MB -7950GT? and I was able to play the game then).

The game has both DLCs, and although I would like to try without them I'm not sure how.

The computers I have tried this game on are:
Desktop:
OS : Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
CPU: i5 2500k,
GPU: XFX Radeon 6870x2 Catalyst Control Center 11.11 crossfire (also tried with crossfire disabled)
RAM: 16 Gb
MBoard: ASRock Extreme4 Gen. 3

Laptop:
OS : Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
CPU: i5 2410M
GPU: Integrated Intel GMA HD 3000 Graphics
RAM: 4 Gb RAM

I haven't tried the laptop in windows xp virtual pc mode yet, but would much rather play on my desktop.
Has anyone encountered this or have any suggestions?
There seem to be a number of threads with issues, but it doesn't seem to be the same issue or multiple issues are in the same thread.

I had this same issues for the past few days and thought I'd wait it out. After finishing Frozen Synapse's achievement I came back to this to see no update. I found out that if you put the game in Windowed and go from there, there's a good chance you can find your solution. For me I use Eset Smart Security with an interactive firewall so I have to accept/decline internet access on everything.

While in fullscreen it didn't send an internet accept/deny popup for me until I tried going into campaign while in Windowed mode. Although this may not directly relate to your needed solution, I'd highly suggest Windowed mode and to try toggling off Antivirus/Firewalls if the solution doesn't seem obvious.

Thank you so much, I have Comodo and I never saw it pop up. Was able to get through the achievement (and played enough for 3 others). Thanks again!
