Make DLC-installation optional (mock-up included)

As far as I know, Steam automatically installs all DLC the user has bought; there is no way to just install the base-game without also installing the DLC.

I propose to give the user the possibility to not install the DLC. The reason I ask for this option is twofold:
  • Some DLC significantly changes the game. Users may want to re-experience the base game.
  • Some DLC is not relevant for the game (an example would be the Frozen Synapse Soundtrack: If you bought the soundtrack, you have to download and install 1GB of data (WAV, FLAC and MP3-versions of the soundtrack))

The existing UI that comes up when you click on "install" when you just bought several games at once could be re-used slightly modified:

Installation of DLC after the installation of the main game could be triggered from the DLC-menu in the game-properties.

Agreed, it can easily be done, as a DLC is not a must-have update.

We should have the choice of installing a certain DLC or not.

But what ever DLC it is, we pay for it, want to downloaded it, and play it, so nothing special

Portal 2 DLC changes both players' skin if they don't have anything else chosen. My friend did not like that, so having it disabled could be useful there.

/signed specifically for the extra gigabyte that Frozen Synapse's FLAC and uncompressed WAV soundtrack wastes.
