Strange sound issue (no sound)

I purchased the Grotesque Tactics series when Steam had the daily deal. When I start the program, there is no sound. In fact, no audio goes through from any program while GT is active. On the off chance that it might solve the problem, I installed ffdshow, suggested by another thread, but that did not help.

However, when I start my DVD program (AV DVD Player Morpher) and then start GT, there is no problem with the sound. I have not yet tried this work around with other media programs. Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this problem and how to fix it? Thank you.
