Post RailWorks Translations

PS: Admin, thank you very much! Now there is a place where language files can be distributed.

Starting with version v98.2c, RailWorks contains a localisation system making translating RailWorks and content for RailWorks quicker and easier. However, there is no place to distribute language files. Now, here it is.

There are two elements to localisation within RailWorks. The first is localising the core of the game, which includes the text presented in the front end, the tools and the user interface of the game. The second is localising the content such as routes and scenarios.

Install notes:
Copy the .lan file to

<Path to Steam>\steamapps\common\railworks\Languages

Core:

de - German:
  • Author: Christian Pichler - Nightc0re
  • Based on: Official de.lan by RailWorks-Team (2010)
  • Works with: RailWorks v114.1b
  • File: de.lan
  • Version: 3.5

fr - French:
  • Author: Erakis, from RailSim-fr.com
  • Edited by: anonymous
  • Works with: RailWorks v114.1b
  • File: fr.lan
  • Version: 1.0

Routes and Scenarios:
No translations, yet.
To all translators:
If you write a Translation post it in this thread.
I will add your translation asap.
For further information look here.

You can use this forum:
  • to upload translations.
  • to clarify some questions.
  • to discuss existing translations, mistakes, etc.

Some basic Rules and Information:
  • If your translation is based on another one, you have to attribute the work of the author.
  • If you want to use numbers, be sure excel marks these cells as string.
    Otherwise xls2lan will not convert these cells.
    By writing ' as the first character you force excel to interpret the cell as string. Example: '2.
    Sidenote: You can use lan2xls to check which items are actually converted. If the exported xls file contains empty string, you know there is an error in your source xls file.
  • Always use the latest Copyright Notice. You can find the translation in RS_TXT_COPYRIGHT_NOTICE.
  • You can upload your translation to any hoster, but I prefer uploaded.to, because of the low waiting times.
  • Post the link in this forum.
  • Please format your submitted post. (see below)

Format:
Code:

[] = optional.
| = choose.

Name: de - German
Category: Core|Route|Scenario
[Route = xxx]
[Scenario = xxx]
[Progress = 50% (You can reserve a translation-project)]
Author: Christian Pichler - Nightc0re
[Based on: Official German.lan by RailWorks-Team]
File: de.lan (Download Link)
Version: 1.0
Changelog:

1.0
Fixed something.
Added something.
Comment:
Your additional information.
Information:
There is no need to PM me; as soon as you upload a new translation, I will receive an email and I will add your translation asap.

There is no official way to appreciate your work nor to distinctively identify the author, however I found a string id, which does a pretty good job.
RS_TXT_LAUNCHER_LANGUAGE.
This is the groupbox name for the language selection.
For example you can use:

"German v1.0 by Christian Pichler | RWDev"

If your translation is based on another one, you have to attribute the work of the author.

Have Fun!

Thanks. I hope this thread gets sticky soon, I put many hours in this translation project. It would be a pity, if nobody see this collection point for the languages. I have noticed that some people have downloaded the old languages, maybe we have more languages next week .

As mentioned in my post, this is a (very) old version by RailWorks Team, but you can use this file as a base for your translation.
You can merge this old file with the new version with my program.
Afterwards you can add the missing translations in the excel file and convert it back to ".lan".

If you are going to write a new version, I can upload it to this forum, so everyone can use it.

Looks like RSC isn't giving support for translation to rest of us anymore. Does anyone know why?

Regards

Maybe they are to busy right now releasing new content. It's even hard for us translators to keep up translating, because the game gets frequently updated.

All we can do for now is hope that someday they will pay more attention to translations.

Best regards
