Trying to chat & play in game does not work.

It's a joke, a friend sends me a message & I can't even tab out to reply because the game makes my mouse stick in the top corner, so I have to terminate the program in task manager.

Hi,

Your error is a specific and I would assume rare one. These type of errors can occur to any game, no matter how well programmed and developed. It just so happened that you were unlucky to experience it on this game. The game is not fully at fault for having to force you to access the task manager. A variety of external libraries and faulty installations such as that of the Visual C++ Redistributable or whatever this game uses could be the cause.

Try verifying your game or playing it on a different system, it's relatively short and not that system intensive. I don't experience any issues with alt-tabbing.

Not really. VVVVVV locks the mouse when in windowed, which is strange for a game that doesn't even use it

I blame SDL :P

Doubt that you still have this error OP, but if you do try this: http://distractionware.com/forum/index.php?topic=693.0

This is the 2.1 patch which supports OpenGL which allows the Steam overlay to function, as well as a lot of other stuff.

I know there's a fixed SDL.dll with the mouse lock bug mentioned fixed

somewhere out there

I hope changed source is available for it too
