Game runs like **** since yesterday

Ever since Steam was down yesterday, the game runs like complete s***. Loading takes literally 4 to 5 minutes and when I get in the level, it's laggy and framey that it's literally unplayable. Other people in game have similar issues.
About ready to give up on this game entirely. Every time Valve patches the game or messes with the Steam servers, the game runs worse.
