Game won't start - SteamPI_Init() failed

After updating the Steam client today, I can't seem to launch Bit Trip Runner from Steam or my folder. WHen launched in Steam it just hangs, and when launched from the folder I get an error:

'Steam must be running to play this game (SteamPI_Init() failed).'

Wtf? Anyone have this problem and is it because of the update or something else? Irritating >_>

Already restarted and uninstalled/installed also did the Oal thing but I think its steam..............SIGH.
