Brake Differences?

This might be a noob question, but is there any difference between "Brake/Backwards" and "Hand Break" (besides the fact that one moves you backwards)?

You can turn corners sharper using the hand brake.

It's the same difference that there is in a car! with the brake you can slow down and turn at a slower speed, the hand brake will make you brake harderand faster.
btw with the key that you use to brake you can go in reverse too
