Crashing when changing any graphics settings

I get a black screen if I change ANY of the Graphics settings, then I have to Ctrl, Alt, Delete to the Desktop and close the game from there.

ATI Radeon 5870, 11.12 Drivers
6 GB RAM
i7 920 @ 3.8 GHz
Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium

edit: Also I feel I could be getting better FPS results in the game, maybe I'm expecting too much, but I can't really tell until I sort out the crashing atm >.>

Maybe it's a PhysX issue? Try uninstalling PhysX and install the version that comes with the game in steamapps\common\metro 2033\install

It fixed my crashes when starting the game, never had issue when changing graphics setting though.

Im using a i5 2500K and a 6870 which is close to the 5870 and I get nice performance of 60fps at 1080p on DX11 High with DOF/Tesselation off.

Vey high and the extra DX11 stuff doesnt make the game look significantly better imo but cripples performance. Even on high the game looks stunning.

Looks like I'm getting some kind of artifacting in the game though.

At the beginning anyway.. the lights appear square on the screen :S
