Well, I understand why you implemented the missions. I'm fine with the semi-chaotic nature of them. As you pointed out, this kind of stuff happens all the time in other sandboxy games.
The missions for this game are a damned if you do, damned if you don't sort of thing though. I'm glad you included them because there are MANY players out there (not me) that hate not having an "objective" or end goal. I know one dude in particular who hated Minecraft because of this reason, even though he liked the premise. He didn't like having something him telling him that something must be accomplished. I know if you chose not to implement those missions, you'd have scores of gamers complaining there's nothing to do - a lot of people just don't "get" the concept of a sandbox game, I suppose. |

If he is a kid, why has his fairly mild opinion (I've seen far worse, the guy even complimented you in the same paragraph) provoked a genuinely irrelevant and condescending reply from a man? :]

I haven't really played this game all that much, but from what I have played, I have to say, it's pretty fun just messing around. Great game, definitely glad I bought it for the sale price.

I just got this and Ive been playing it a bit and I must say this game is something else. Ive played many games where you evolve and grow by colliding into other things (fish, amoebas, etc.). But a game where you play as a whole planet or star, and dragging around orbiting bodies around with you as zoom across the universe, performing obscure tasks for a mysterious entity with an odd sense of humour...
Its kinda thought provoking in a way, both the quirky missions you do and the concept of the game itself, and the missions are actually fairly challenging. It lacks depth and theres not much too it, but it does have a lot of "whoa" moments and is a very interesting game to play - which is what I look for in inexpensive indie games. Like the mission where you are a planet that is a stage for a galactic light show. Or killing a planet full of skunks - that mission actually has a plot twist! Im pleasantly surprised with the humor and light plot. All in all, Im glad I got this game. It may lack length or staying power, but it makes me think, provides a challenge, and is a fairly good execution of an ambitious and interesting concept. Worth it, and is exactly what I look for in an indie game. |

Was disappointed with Universe Sandbox, I was expecting to be able to see the Sun turn into a red giant, watch the Earth freeze as I move it away, and so on. Turns out it's not a pretty looking simultion, just physics porn. |
