hi all, just curious in SH3 I have my ship at silent running mode and I see a warship, im at periscope depth and I see a warship so I stop to make no sound yet no matter what I do Im detected ALL the time and typically I get depth charged and the enemy always hits their target Im a complete noob but played these games for ages -.-

what am I doing wrong pls

I haven't played SH3, but my best guess is since you're at periscope depth, the enemy ship can see you. Stealth is a submarine's greatest asset as it's not the best at open ship-to-ship combat. A good sub captain will sneak in, hit the enemy hard and sneak out as fast as possible.

If being seen isn't the issue, then I'm sorry, but I can't help. As is, I'm simply reading this board to gauge whether or not I want to buy SH3/SH4/SH5, so my actual gameplay experience is none.

Well not sure about SH3. ( I played SH4)

but on SH4 the fact that you are on silent mode does not mean that you are undetectable.
On SH4, if you stay to close to the surface, no matter if you are on silent mode, the enemy destroyer can detect you, and unless you dive, he will destroy you.

so my advice for you is, if an enemy destroyer is coming for you, try not to stay close to the surface, dive. dont even try to fight the destroyer, its not worth it.
