It's called single threaded rendering I think. As for what that actually means, no idea.

I'd just like to say that this is an excellent FAQ! It addresses most of the major topics that people have been asking about since the holiday sale arose.
Nicely done, ajcoll5! +rep |

I had the bug where I was stuck syncing forever, and none of the fixes here worked for me. What did work for me however was making sure that Steam itself was not running in any sort of compatibility mode.

@ajcoll5 - my command line options don't seem to work. I've tried three different ways: via steam launch console options, the LA Noire launcher, and a command line txt file saved in the LA Noire folder. I've typed them this way: "-ignorefocus -nonv" (without quotes). I'm not sure if the -nonv is working properly or not, but the -ignorefocus command isn't. I alt-tab frequently and the game still pauses. Would you know of a solution to this? Thank you.

Maybe a not-so-faq, but with AMD HD5970 and even current drivers (12.1 preview + 11.12 CAP1) it has negative Crossfire scaling for me.
Using RadenPro pointing to the executable directly ( \steam\steamapps\common\l.a.noire\lanoire.exe and turning off crossfire does the job for me. Gives me maxed details at 1920x1200 the capped 30 FPS; without it ranges from 15 to 25, depending on scene. |

EDIT: Yep. Both times I've played now, every time an hour to an hour and a half passes, FPS drops start to spike/occur :/ Last edited by Eon the Wolf: 01-06-2012 at 01:29 AM. |

Why the guide doesn't work since Monday should be a frequently asked question now.

Does anyone have this wierd problem i have? For me the game runs fine, but on menus it seems like i would be pressing up arrow all the time.
I cannot scroll menus as when i select like resume it selects it and in 1 sec goes up to new game. Happens in every menu screen in this game (Scrolls all the way up 100% of the time). I tried to re-install it many times, but none did help. I've been trying to look this problem on internet, but no one has had it, or i have missed something. I also tried to use X360 controller to see if it would disappear, but it certainly won't disappear. I am running on Windows 7 64-bit and running steam as administrator, so that is not the problem either as the game runs fine, but the only problem is menu's scrolling up 100% of the time. Any help would be appreciated as i am running out of options! Thanks in advance. Last edited by Valkosipuli: 01-26-2012 at 01:37 AM. |

Got it working. Game seems to register un-used joystick and thats why it was going up all the time.
If you have anykind of joystick / racing wheel take it all off when playing this game! I dont know am i the only one with this problem, but please put it in faq as some people might have same kind of problem and not really notice it

Might be worth mentioning that there seems to be a problem with ATI Crossfire in some configurations.
I've got a pair of Radeon HD4850s, and disabling Crossfire significantly improves performance and also fixes a strange glitch with mirrors and reflections. (I've seen the -str posted as a solution for that before, so I'm wondering if forcing "single threaded rendering" or unchecking the "Multithreading" option accomplishes the same goal.) |

Some of you need to learn that Rockstar didn't make this. They Produced it. Bondi made it. Rockstar Provided the new tech and let Bondi use it and then got someone else to port it to PC. if it was a Rockstar game it would be proper like GTA series. GTA IV wasn't poorly optimized. That was hard to run because of the amount of Geometry and LOD it had on it. if you set the grafx to same as console it runs smooth but if u set it on max prepare for some major fps drop.
